"Your so annoying!" I yelp at the red headed girl who just pinched my sides.
"Haha!" She laughs, her wire glasses almost flying off. She comes in again, crouching to pinch me. She dives, I whirl around and laughing I pinch her instead. She yelps in surprise. I giggle and barrel off down the sidewalk. She laughs and follows me, I run across the road, a car honks as it passes its headlight barely hitting me. I keep running, I jump a white picker fence and climb the steps. Darting through the door I shut it, and lock it. I laugh as Jane bangs against it. "You gotta let me in!" She cries.
"Only if you don't pinch me" I reason.
"Alright" the banging stops. "I promise" I open the door, prepared for her to jump at me. She stands there smiling. "See?" She says putting her hands up as if in surrender. She walks pass me and throws her bag on the kitchen table. I look around the kitchen, it has bright blue walls, and a white tilled floor. The counter is white marble with black specks. She sits down, her bright green eyes, on her fox like face scans around the room.
"Are we going to do homework or not?" I ask, grabbing two glasses from a tan cupboard and filling them with Coke. I walk over and place them gingerly on the table.
"Of course" she laughs, rummaging through her bag pulling out her math book. She skims through the pages till she finds the desired spot then hops in. I begin to work on my History.
Within an hour we have finished our homework. I gulp down the last few drops of my drink and drag Jane out the door. I march down the steps, her hand in tow. Opening the gate I start down the sidewalk. A high pitch screech rings through the air, like rubber on cement. I whirl around as a car spins towards me, I scream and put my hands up and close my eyes waiting for the worst. Suddenly its stops, the car has missed me completely! How could it, it was heading directly towards me! I sigh with relief. Jane looks at me.
"That was close" she stutters glancing at the grey car as the door clicks open. Out climbs a man, he stumbles clearly drunk.
"Ar-are you okay?" He asks, almost tripping.
"Yeah, we are" I answer cautiously. He stumbles again, then his eyes roll into the back of his head and he passes out. We back up slowly, then sprint off towards the park.
At the park I sit down on the swing to rest.
"That was close" Jane says taking the swing besides me.
"Yeah, and it was weird. I could have sworn that car was barreling straight towards me" I confess looking at her.
"Its alright, at least we are both okay" She finishes before heading over to the slide. I follow and she goes down it, me quickly after her. We run around for an hour, then we part ways and I head back home.
I walk down the sidewalk, there are no cars in sight and all the lights in the houses are dark. It almost seems abandoned. Out of the corner of my eye a shadow flashes, I whip my head around. Nothing. I walk at a brisker pace towards my house. I enter and shut the door, I turn around as my mom walks into the kitchen. Her blonde hair like mine tied in a ponytail.
"Hey dear" she says, rummaging through a drawer. She pulls out a wooden spoon and mixes what ever is in the pot on the stove.
"Hi" I reply casually and head up to my room. I open up the white door revealing myself to a small room. A bed is against the wall with bright blue covers. The walls are a lime green and the floor hard wood. I shuffle over to my bed and sit down. I peer out of the window. Again the shadow it runs across my yard to then disappear behind the fence. I rub my tired eyes, I must be hallucinating. I lie down and my tired eyes close themselves and I drift into a nice, peaceful nap.
