Dean opened his eyes against the bright sun. He sucked in a breath of the warm air, scanning his eyes over the vast landscape of trees and mountains in the distance. A bird chirped and water rushed by in a nearby river. It was complete serenity.

This was it. This is what Dean had been waiting for years. The pain of the rebar impaling his back was nothing compared to the pain of leaving his brother behind. But even then, that pain was starting to fade into oblivion. Dean knew he would see his brother again. They shared a heaven, after all.

"Hi, Dean," a familiar voice suddenly said from beside him.

Dean whipped his head to the right, butterflies instantly shooting up throughout him. It was Jack. He stood with a warm smile and a hand held up to about his shoulder in a wave-gesture.

Dean couldn't believe his eyes. He thought Jack--his son--was gone for good. After Cas, Dean couldn't deal with another loss. God or no, Dean wanted Jack there with him.

"Jack," Dean breathed, his eyes twinkling with amazement and his mouth agape. "How-"

"I'm God. I can do as I please." Jack looked upon one of his surrogate fathers in complete adoration. "Welcome to Heaven, Dean."

Dean blinked, breaking out of his daze and glanced around his area again. "Yeah..."

Dean still couldn't comprehend the fact he was dead. Yes, he was at peace knowing that it was his time but... After everything? After so much sacrifice and so much death and so much time spent constantly fighting? How sick was it that he could only rest at death?

Jack's brows creased in pity. "I'm sorry, Dean." He smiled again. "But, I built a new heaven for you. The heaven you deserved--no walls, everyone together."

Dean met Jack's eyes again, a new wave of disbelief washing over him. "What?"

"All along this road... your friends and family are located. John and Mary, Bobby, Charlie... everyone."

Dean had no words. He looked down the long two-lane road, expecting to see everyone emerge in one big horde. He shifted impatiently on his feet. He just wanted to see them. Upon his death, heaven was actually something he deeply feared. Being stuck, replaying your "greatest hits" over and over again, regardless of his brother being there, would have been awful. It honestly made him sick.

But this... this new heaven? It was everything he wanted. He just wanted to be with his family--blood or no. It was all that he had fought for. His life now felt meaningful. Yes, having a full life would have been nice. He had fantasies of growing old with Sam. He never imagined himself married or having kids, he doesn't think he could after everything he's been through. But it would have been nice to have forty-some more birthdays and watch the gray collect on his sandy blonde hair and watch Sam get married and have his first kid...

"There's one more thing," Jack said suddenly, cocking a brow. "We've got someone I need help rescuing: Cas."

Dean's breath hitched in his throat. Hearing his name, let alone thinking about him, sent a wave of emotions crashing over his mind and body. Ever since Cas died, Dean has tried to make sense of it. He knows that without his sacrifice, they wouldn't have been able to defeat God. But how was it fair for him? Cas had only done good, has only trusted and fought and loved... for him to be sent to eternal sleep?
