7. umbrella

"Kyung-ah!" Dohwa calls as soon as he sets foot in school. "Why weren't you in school yesterday? And why didn't you answer my calls? What happened to your lip?"

Dohwa grimaces at the scab on his face. Kyung rolls his eyes.

Are you my girlfriend or something? He scoffs to himself.

"Where's Eun Dan Oh?" Kyung demands at a low volume.

"Dan Oh?" Dohwa frowns.

"Where is she right now?"

The rain beats down as Baek Kyung lashes his anger out on Eun Dan Oh.

"You use your weak heart as an excuse to get what you want. You aren't actually dying."

In a flash his shoulder is grabbed, a fist colliding with his face. Baek Kyung falls to the floor. Dan Oh shrieks in shock.

Kyung glances up at the stranger.

"Who the hell are you?" He bellows.

"You won't remember even if I told you. Because the scene will change soon."

Baek Kyung remains stunned as the mysterious man pulls Dan Oh away. He sits in the rain, the familiar feeling of helplessness seeping into his veins.

"Most people try to avoid the rain, you know?"

He looks up in surprise. Min Lila stands in front of him with a small smile, extending her umbrella so the rain no longer pounds against his skin.

Baek Kyung frowns with confusion when she slings a box from his favourite snack bar in his lap. He already knows it's teokkbokki.

"How did you know I'd be here?"

"You're predictable."

"How did you know it would rain?"

Lila shrugs. "Lucky guess."

"Why are you nice to me?" Kyung sighs. "I'm a horrible person."

Lila shakes her head, ruffling his soaked hair. "You have anger issues for sure and you lash out at people because you're hurting. But you're not a bad person."

He remains silent, looking at her with an unreadable expression.

"Keep the umbrella, okay? I gotta run."

And before he can protest, she's set off.

"Kyung!" Dohwa calls as he makes his way down the school steps. "Why are you soaking wet? Did the writer make it rain?"

Baek Kyung frowns as he looks at his soaked uniform and then Dohwa's bone dryness.

"There's no trace of rain but you're wet. Isn't that weird?" Dohwa muses.

Kyung mulls over his words as he glances at the surroundings and the other students. Sure enough, everything and everyone was dry except him.

He frowns. "But Dan Oh and Lila-"

"They're different from you, they have egos. You don't notice when things are weird. Wait a little and you'll be dry in the next scene."

The next scene. That's what the guy who punched him said too.
