Yanan was on hiatus from Pentagon during summer 2018 to film "The Collaboration" (aka CYZJ), a Chinese performance competition reality show. On August 22, Cube announced that he would be taking a hiatus due to health (and that Dawn was temporarily suspended from Pentagon's activities, but that's covered in the Dawn's Departure chapter).
The Collaboration aired 12 July 2018 - 13 September 2018, so I'm not sure if he had finished filming all of it before going on hiatus or if he left the show early. I haven't watch all of it but I included the full Eng sub in the external link. I know at one point he was considering leaving the show due to his mental health and he spoke to Jun from Seventeen about it, who was his partner for performances on the show. (That scene is very sad but also kind of wholesome at the same time, because the way Jun responded was so pure and heartfelt. Seeing that and other scenes of Jun and The8/Minghao on the show gave me mad respect for their teamwork/chemistry and the way they care for the people around them.)
I'm not sure exactly when Yanan returned to Pentagon but he was back for their mini album Genie:us which was released 27 March 2019.
