After I refused the dragon prince's proposal to marry him, he let his wrath be known. The rejection had caused a blazing fire to my kingdom. My home, with the wave of his hand, had started to crumble beneath his livid gaze. That was all it took.
That was all it took for his signal to reach the awaiting monsters of flames to do his merciless bidding. His army of terrifying dragons wasted no time at all in turning everything beautiful to ash. The smell of burning vegetation from the gardens was not hard to miss and it was just as difficult to see said destruction unravel before me. It was the first thing I noticed: my favorite place on the floating islands was vanishing before my very eyes.
The gardens were where I crafted flower crowns, adorned with bright petals, each stem carefully and intricately wrapping itself with the twine. It's where I took the best naps, the sun engulfing me as if it were a blanket and the birds chirping as if singing me the sweetest lullaby. I was introduced to the kindest critters, and refreshed myself when I dove my hands into the clearest waters of the springs. It was nearly impossible to take in even though I was watching it unveil itself. The demolition of my land and watching the buildings collapse and the people fly for safety had been forever carved into my memory.
It was the first time I had ever experienced heartbreak. The second came soon after when my mother sealed my wings into the blades of my back and placed a crystal necklace around my neck...

... only to push me off the floating islands afterward. The last thing I ever heard from that woman as her touch left my shoulders was her beautiful voice delivering me one last message; a painful goodbye. Her last words play over and over again in my head, acting as a constant mantra of her own heartache.
"My most beautiful angel, remember me."
And with an all too familiar touch as her lips lightly graced my temple, she sent me off. Her kisses would always bring me the most joy, for I always knew that those kisses spoke words of love. This one however was a parting gift, and we both knew that.
Oh, Mother...remember you? Little did she know she didn't have to tell me twice. In fact, she didn't have to remind me at all. Everything about my mother was unforgettable: Her blinding beauty, which I remember thinking when I was young that she had carried herself with an elegance and that made her the most beautiful angel of all. Her kindness, something she taught me to mimic for as long as I could remember. Her lively stories, her laugh still ringing in my ears as she raised and lowered her voice to give the character's personality. Her smile, her jokes, her dances, her flower crowns... And what echoes in my mind most of all: her love. It was unforgettable. All of it. I couldn't lose her and I couldn't lose everything I've ever known.
But she, along with my treasured home, are gone forever. All that's left of any of it lives in my memory. A memory I know I must keep alive, including myself. Once I figure out how to get back to the floating islands, I'll take what's mine back from that evil prince.
For now, my biggest challenge will have to be how to survive on Fairytale Island. And my biggest mystery...
...the mystery of whose house I just crashed into?
