A normal witch's hand didn't glow when in contact with another to steal their magic by causing them pain. It wasn't natural.
As much punishment she received for such action, Kayla liked the thrill of this kind of power. So much that she accidentally lost control of her magic, her 'borrowed' magic and set her house on fire.
