Hope was waiting for them at the Old Mills.
She was supposed to be the one to go for Kayla but for the way they had ended things, they were awkward among each other
Freya was a somewhat peacemaker between the two of them as they walked inside the old structure.
"Pretty" Freya told them, looking around. "In a creepy, 'don't get caught alone here at night' kind of way"
Hope chuckled. "The Saltzman twins found it, like, two years ago"
"Pretty sure it's their evil 'Mean Girl' lair" Kayla added, a little bitter.
Hope glanced at her, realizing they had another thing in common. Their estranged relationship with the twins, but unlike Hope, Kayla was the one to destroy any kind of possible friendship with the cousins that didn't know who she was to them.
Freya scoffed amused, "Or they share their father's love for the bottle" she walked to the table, picking up a chair, facing to the girls as she began picking up bowls for the spell. "All right. You want to find your mom, I got to start with how she was taken in the first place"
"We already told you" Hope told her, exchanging a look with Kayla who looked away, sighing. "We don't know. Someone followed us"
"Or there was a problem with your cloaking spell" Freya told them. "Maybe you missed a step... left a loophole open. Maybe your friend accidentally siphoned it without her noticing"
Kayla and Hope frowned.
"No, of course I didn't" Hope told her.
Kayla pursed her lips, "I would have noticed I had more magic than usual"
Freya turned to them, sighing, placing the bowls in the chair. "Fine. You were followed. Then we retrace every step you took. A deconstructing spell will magnify that the cup of blood in each bowl will give us that"
Freya gave each girl a small knife.
Kayla awkwardly grabbed it, glancing at Hope who seemed slightly annoyed.
"I know how it works, aunt Freya" Hope told her. The girls knelt in front of the chair.
"Okay" Kayla murmured, opening the blade and with a slight grimace sliced her hand open, pursing her lips to hold back a hiss or a whimper as she watched her blood pour out of her wound, clenching her fist so the blood would fall faster.
"That's enough" Freya told her, watching the blood fall into the bowl.
Kayla withdrew her hand, looking at Hope who was slicing her hand open too. However, unlike Kayla's blood, Hope's wouldn't fall out.
Hope frowned at her hand.
"Hope?" Kayla asked, using her jacket to stop the blood flowing from her hand.
"Don't stop" Freya told her, not looking at neither girl.
"Dammit" Hope cursed as she opened her hand, seeing the wound had healed.
"It wasn't enough" Freya told her.
"It's healing faster than I'm bleeding" Hope told them, looking at Freya accusingly. "Maybe you shouldn't have picked a spell that involved me bleeding out"
Kayla stared at the woman who nodded along Hope's words, "Which you knew couldn't happen. You don't want to do this spell"
"Not particularly, no" Freya reluctantly admitted.
"Then why would you make me bleed?" Kayla asked, frowning. "Is that your subtle way to make me suffer for my play in Hayley's kidnapping? Or do you want it for later to cause me a painful, slow death now that you have my blood?"
"Kayla" Hope frowned, though she wouldn't put it past her family to hold something like that against outsiders who hurt her family and sadly, Kayla was both. All because of her.
"I wouldn't do that" Freya tried to reassure her but Kayla wouldn't believe her. Her mind was whirling in several ways someone could enact their revenge because if someone had done the same she did to her, she would have found the most painful and slow way to hurt her enemies, to make them suffer. After all, Kayla strived in the pain of others.
"Then let's do the spell with Kayla's blood" Hope told them, "She helped me with it"
"It doesn't work like that, it has to be the two of you's blood, not just one" Freya answered. "And I knew it wouldn't work" Hope looked incredulous. Freya shrugged slightly, "If there was even a chance of it working, don't you think one of the hundred powerful New Orleans witches would have thought of it by now?"
"Then why are we wasting time?" Hope asked, desperately "There's something you're not telling me"
Freya stared at her niece silently, eyes flickering to the other girl as if contemplating what she had heard from Vincent. Not only about Hope. He had seen an unknown player alongside Hope and all this time, she had hoped Hope hadn't made that bond. But seeing the two girls? Her fear and all New Orleans' was coming true.
"Vincent and Ivy think they've learned something" Freya began slowly, knowing she had to be truthful. "About you" She looked at Kayla, lips pursed "About both of you"
