DodgedMerlin's roommates were surprised to see Merlin still on his bed when they woke up. Merlin usually left early in the mornings and came back late in the evening. But there he was at seven in the morning dressed and ready for the day, still sitting on his bed. He was writing in a journal and looked like he hadn't even gone to bed in the first place.
"Hey, you okay? You look like you didn't sleep." Apollo Black, one of his roommates, spoke up after a few minutes.
Merlin's head snapped up. He hadn't noticed his roommates were up. He cast a quick tempus to see that it was 7:18.
"Huh, yeah, I'm fine. I woke up at 3:40 and couldn't go back to sleep." He said as he stood up. "I'm going to breakfast."
He walked down through the dormitory down to the common room and out of the dungeon to the great hall. Merlin walked straight (gay) to the Slytherin table. Just as he grasped an apple to eat, a hand grabbed him and dragged him to the Gryffindor table.
"You didn't have to drag me, Dora," Merlin exclaimed as he was pushed down with happy birthday wishes from Charlie, Dora, and the twins.
"Nonsens, if I hadn't, you wouldn't have come," Dora said as she sat down beside him.
"Have you gotten your inheritance yet?"
"Have you gotten your letter yet?"
Charlie and Dora spoke at the same time.
"Yes to Charlie, no to Dora."
"Cool, do you know what you are?" Only Charlie spoke this time.
"I'm not sure, but my ears are pointy, and I had wings and a tail. I also got some scales on a few places on my body." He moved his hair so they could see the ears and pulled down the collar of his shirt down to show his neck where a few scales were. He hadn't seen them right away, but he noticed them sometime in the two hours he spent in front of the mirror.
"That's so cool. Can I touch them?" Fred shouted up. George, who sat opposite of him, agreed.
"Sure" Merlin was happy that the twins like the scales. Fred touched them from where he sat beside Merlin, and George stretched his hand over the table to touch. However, Merlin smacked away Dora's hand when she had tried to and sent a glare to Charlie when he made a motion to stretch his hand over as well.
"So how many mates and their names?" Dora asked, somewhat suspicious after the twins had sat down and the friends had given Merlin his gifts.
"uhh, two, and I'll tell you two later," Merlin answered as he looked between Dora and Charlie.
"Hey, why can't-"
"-We know too?"
"Because you're eleven, we're seventeen."
"Merlin' the only one-"
"-who's seventeen-"
"-you're still sixteen."
Charlie only sent them a look that read 'shut up.' After breakfast, the trio left the twins to find their friend, a boy named Lee Jordan, and go to class. Merlin's first class of the day was transfiguration with the Ravenclaws. He told Charlie and Dora, who had charms together, that he would meet them in the library before lunch, and he would show them who his mates were. He left before they could object.
Lunch came quicker than Merlin hoped for. He was standing inside the library, by the table they usually sat at to study. He was writing in his journal and sweating in nervousness.
Charlie and Dora soon walked into the library and found their way to their table. They saw Merlin writing with the letter he received this morning that told him what creature he was; it had come a few minutes before they left, so they didn't know what he was. They sat down on either side of him. When they did, he jumped a little as he hadn't noticed them before.
"You're jumpier than usual. What's up?" Dora laughed.
"Sorry, I didn't notice you." Merlin excused as he closed the journal and leaned back in his seat. He kept looking everywhere and was very fidgety. Charlie and Dora had never seen him like that before. They looked at the letter sitting in front of them.
"Dude, you're an elf-blooded dragon with control of the element of darkness. That's so cool." Charlie whisper shouted.
"Yeah, I am." His words were barely audible.
"Are you okay? You look pale, which is not something I knew you could look like." Dry laughter left her mouth.
Instead of answering, he rolled up his sleeve to show them the names written on his forearm. He closed his eyes, afraid of their reaction. It was silent for a few seconds before Charlie let out a sigh of relief, and Dora just let a chuckle slip. Merlin's eyes opened up to look at his friends.
"Thank Godric, it's you. We were scared that they'd get an abusive dominant." Charlie looked extremely happy at the names on Merlin's forearm.
"I think we should get to lunch. I'm hungry." Dora stood up and started dragging the two boys towards the great hall.
Well, that ball was well dodged.
