ADELINE'S fingers collect dust as she touches the spines of old books on the second level of Boggarts bookstore.

She's grown fond of books, more so now that she found herself alone more often than not recently. If she wasn't with Draco, she had old and new literature in her palms.

Especially over the summer when she could only ever see her friend while they were both stuck at more luncheons, more events and more balls.

It was dreadfully boring but she was always greatful Draco was there with her.

He stands behind her now, glowering down at the crowd below them. Adeline was sure that the infamous Harry Potter and his friends were down there as well, if not for Draco's annoyed posture but also the loud shout Gilderoy Lockhart let out when he saw him.

Adeline was very familiar with Draco's innate hatred for Potter & co. She had been the one he would always complain to after all.

She was there for their first meeting, when Harry had flat out rejected Draco in front of everyone. Looking back, Adeline could understand Potter's hesistation, considering the Malfoy's were never very good at playing nice.

She still didn't quite understand Draco's utter hatred for them though, not when they seemed perfectly ordinary in their own biddings.

Adeline supposes she just doesn't care for these sorts of things the way everyone else does. She'd grown up with so much talk of blood and worth, but she never realised the lack of importance of such things until she started at Hogwarts.

It was a pleasant surprise to find that people didn't care about that kind of thing at school. Nobody looked at her like she was a possession they wanted, nobody cared that her family was all that known or that everyone expected many things from her. Nobody really knew anything about her or where she came from.

Everyone was too busy with Harry Potter to even notice Adeline, and she often feels like she owes him thanks for that. Someone had to take the limelight and she was relieved it finally wasn't her.

She made fast friends with many people, Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws. She tried to stay away from Gryffindors if she could, because even if Adeline didn't exactly care for Slytherin's hatred for anyone who wasn't in their house, they were onto something about the air of supremacy all the Gryffindors had.

Adeline had met Amethyst Hatch, a lovely Ravenclaw, in her DADA class and they became fast friends. She would often smuggle Adeline onto the Ravenclaw table during meals and they would walk to shared classes together.

Amethyst was smart and strikingly beautiful, she didn't care for Slytherins very much but she liked Adeline instantly.

During the same week Adeline met Amethyst, she also found Ari Butters. He was a Slytherin where he was cunning and sly, but he was also soft and funny. He got in trouble a lot, always dragging Adeline into it with his good natured fun. She liked him a lot, he reminded her of someone she had once known.
