Ninjago One Shots

1. Greenflame (Short)

Heaving and panting, Kai couldn't seem to catch his breath. Hunched over, with his hands on his knees he closed his eyes, trying to bring as much air to his lungs as he possibly could. Hearing a scream, he looks up only to see Lloyd hit the floor before being held down by Garmadon.

An evil smirk adorns Garmadon's face as his other two free hands come together, forming his magic. He holds it in the air, the purple mist only getting larger and larger, ready to kill his son.

"Lloyd, no!" Kai screams and runs towards him, but it's too late. The green ninja lays lifeless, his blonde hair covering his beautiful emerald eyes as he takes his last breath, reaching out for Kai before his hand loses strength, and falls to the ground.

"Nooooooooo!"

Kai gasps and sits up, looking around frantically and only relaxed when he realizes he's in his room, and feels a warmth on his side. Looking down, the green ninja is laying on his chest, his arm lovingly wrapped around Kai's waist as he sleeps peacefully.

Gently lifting up his chin to see if he was breathing, Kai curses when Lloyd's eyes slowly flutter open, confusion written all over his face.

"What's wrong?" The blonde asks.

Scoffing, Kai fakes a smirk. "What? I can't admire you, sleeping beauty?" He teases playfully.

Chuckling lowly, Lloyd says, "Really. I felt you moving in your sleep. Bad dream?" He asks and starts to rub his boyfriend's bare chest in an attempt to soothe him.

Sighing, Kai's face softens. "Yeah."

"What happened this time?"

Nightmares happened currently in the Ninja household. After fighting so many evil people, you sort of lose faith in humanity. If you're like Nya or Zane, you take advantage of that and spend all your free time trying to make game plans of how to defeat them. If you're like Lloyd or Jay, it sometimes get's you down in the dumps, and you lose hope. But if you're like Cole or Kai, it affects you in your dreams. Often times, Lloyd can hear Cole's screaming before Jay quickly wakes up and comforts him.

"....It was about you and your father."

Lloyd's eyes widen in surprise, and he picks himself up slightly to kiss the other's cheek. "And?" He encouraged.

"And....you were....gone," Kai closes his eyes like he's in pain, and rubs his head. "The worse part was I couldn't even do anything! I couldn't help you, I couldn't protect you, I couldn't shield you! And it...it felt so real...." Kai mumbled.

Quickly kissing his lips to shut him up, Lloyd pulls back and gives a small smile. "But it wasn't real. I'm right here, and I'm fine." He reassures.

"But I vowed to protect you. It's my duty. I want you to be safe." Kai explains. He still can't grasp that his dream wasn't real.

It was his worst nightmare to lose Lloyd. Lloyd was his everything. He wanted nothing more than to keep him safe and happy, and if he were to lose him.....he would lose his meaning.

"You do protect me, Kai. You always put me before yourself," Lloyd says, stoking his thumb across his lover's soft cheek. He feels his scar and smiles. "You need to stop putting so much pressure on yourself. I love you, and nothing will change that."

"But what if I fail you?" Kai asks.

"You won't."

"But-"

Lloyd cuts the fire ninja off and changes positions, making Kai rest his head on the blonde's chest for a change and starts running his hands through his tangled hair. "No buts. Time to go back to sleep."

Huffing, Kai reluctantly throws his leg over the other's and cuddles him like his own huge teddy bear, slowly drifting off to sleep.
