"There has to be something we can do!" Alfor exclaimed.

"We can't move him, and I will not leave him." I snapped as the sound of sharp claws scraping against metal and teeth chewing through the metal bars came from above.

Allura, Romelle, and Hunk were near the door quaking with fear.

Another raptor had joined the first and the two of them were quickly working their way through the bars.

Glass littered the blankets over Ryan Kinkade. His breaths were shallow. He needs serious medical attention ASAP, or he isn't going to make it.

"Can't we chance moving him?" Hunk asked.

Feeling panicked and pressed for time I looked up at the gnashing teeth getting closer, and then at the mattress Kinkade was lying on.

"Screw it!" I yelled.
"Alfor and Allura grab one side. Hunk and Romelle the other. I will hold his IV. Let's move!" I barked.
Glass rained down on us as the four others lifted Kinkade into the air. I held his IV bag high as we very slowly made our way to the door.

"Where are we going?" Romelle asked with a strained grunt.

"The only place without a skylight." I gestured to the stairwell.

"We'll be sitting ducks with this." Hunk gasped.

"No, choice. They will just keep coming. They are smart, and problem solvers. They will get into these rooms one way or another. At least with the stairs we have a chance of possible escape through the emergency exit."

The sound of glass shattering and a terrifying shriek came from the room we had just evacuated. They were inside.

A shadow fell on the floor of the hall from inside the room.

My heart was racing. My adrenaline coursing. My body was itching to move. To run.

I felt a cold hand close around my wrist. I glanced down to see Ryan Kinkade looking up at me with a determination in his eye I hadn't seen since he had come in injured.

"Leave me. It will give you all a chance to escape."

"No. I will not leave a child to die." I shook my head as tears sprang in my eyes.

"I'm not making it out of here. At least let me do this. Let me save you all. " His voice was low, weak. He was right. He had waited too long without the proper care. He was dying.

"I was a coward. I ran, and abandoned my friends. Let me do this for you now. Go." He released me.

"We can't leave him." Allura shook her head. Romelle was silently sobbing. Hunk was trying to make sense of it all. Alfor rose.

"No. Take him with you. I will cause a diversion. Go now." Alfor snapped over his shoulder.

Allura went to protest but one look from her father silenced her. He kissed her cheek and ran down the opposite hall making all sorts of noise. We watched as two raptors chased him down the hall.

"We need to move now." I spoke in a low whisper.

"I'll take this end." Hunk reached down to grab the mattress, but stopped.
"Kinkade?" He shook the other boys leg.
"Ryan!" He whispered harshly.

"He's-he's-" Romelle's breath came in short frightened gasps.

He's gone.

"Come on." I gently pulled Allura away into the emergency stairwell followed by Romelle and Hunk. The door closed as a scream came from farther down the hallway.
