Steve was a funny guy, but Aja found herself confused by his latest joke. Her boyfriend had stopped by while she and Krell were out, and had a package at the door. The thing inside was labeled as 'cotton candy', but it looked more like a soft pink and blue cloud. Hesitant to touch such a strange looking thing, Aja had tipped it out onto the kitchen table and sat back, eyeing it as though she expected it to move.
Krell had no such reservations and stuck his hand into the cotton candy as soon as he saw it. "Ah- it's sticky!" Krell pulled his hand back, eyes widening when some of the substance stuck to his fingers. "It is candy, right? So it's food?"
Before Aja could object, Krell stuck half his hand into his mouth. Then he pulled his hand back out, looking confused.
"Gross, Krell. I'm not actually sure that this is food- or maybe it's like jello and is only sort of food." Aja considered his for a moment. Yes, this cotton candy could be like the jello, or any other strange human foods that Steve had shown her. It made more sense than a joke at least.
Krell shook his head, a grin spreading across his face. "No Aja it is food! But it vanishes in your mouth- look, my hand is clean!" Beyond the spit, Aja saw that her brother was right- any traces of the cotton candy were gone from his skin.
Upon seeing that her brother wasn't dying, and actually seemed to be enjoying the strange food, Aja carefully pulled off a piece from the still large pile and tasted it.
Her eyes immediately widened in shock. "Oh! That is good!" Krell laughed as Aja immediately grabbed more, marveling at how the cotton candy disappeared in her mouth. "Where does it go? It just disappears!"
The siblings continued eating handfuls of the cotton candy until sadly, the pile was gone. Then they collapsed onto couches in the living room, giggling through their shared sugar high.
Krell slid down his couch until his head rested on the floor, grinning. "Steve will have to show us how to get more of the cotton candy. I could eat it forever!"
Also upside down on her couch, Aja nodded in agreement. "We will have to take some with us when we go back home."
Home. Aja hoped they would get back home one day... but all she could do for the moment was relax, and let her sugar high fade into a crash that would whisk her off to dreamland.
