(The song has nothing to do with the chapter, I just found it and love it ^^)I stepped out of the elevator, examining the darkened area.
"What is this place..?" I muttered.
"Doesn't look like any building I've seen before."'Well, duh.' I thought. 'Of course it doesn't.'
Before I was able to take another step, I heard a shrill noise from one of the alleys in front of me.
I waited.
What... What was that?
I heard it again. A bird? What would a bird be doing here?
Wait.
Birds live outside. Outside is where I want to be. Therefore...
BIRDS MEAN OUTSIDE IS NEAR!I smiled like an idiot before taking off in that direction.
I continued running until I saw a large doorway boarded up by wooden planks.
I heard it again. Where is that thing...?Then, I saw it. A small bird on the ground in front of the door.
"Are you kidding me? I thought you were gonna take me outside!" I playfully glared at the bird, kneeling down."Oh well. We can get out of here together, right?" I smiled. It might be childish to talk to things that had no way of responding, but it helped me stay calm.
That's when it happened. . .
"HAHAA!"
Before I had time to react, the wooden barricade exploded due to the impossibly strong force that slammed into it.
The laugh that followed sent shivers down my spine. Then I looked down. The bird...
No. No.. That was cruel.
It was crushed by one of the only planks left in tact, no hope of it still being alive.
What caught my attention after that was the thing that stood over it.A significantly taller man with bright, bi-colored eyes and a sinister smile stood there, a large scythe in his hands.
He wore a brown zip-up hoodie with dark stains that I hoped to whoever was listening was just some other artificially colored drink and not... What it was.
Along with that, he wore faded jeans colored in a muted red, a peculiar (but not displeasing) match.
Finally, he had a pair of jet black, 'well-worn' boots. After a moment, he spoke.
"Awh! You looked so hopeful a minute ago, where's that cute little expression now?" He cackled, staring down at me.
The look in his eyes was unlike anything I'd ever seen before.I was unable to speak, my body momentarily frozen in fear as I looked up at him.
Tears began to well up in my eyes as I backed away, falling from my knees to my bottom while I tried my best to get as far away from him as possible without turning my back on him."You know... This one might be better. I love seeing the terrified, helpless look on your face. Here's the deal...."
He started, leaning down to my level to look me in the eyes.
"You have 3 seconds to run, it's the least I can do. To repay my kindness, you gotta make the chase interesting! Otherwise, I won't have any fun, and that's just sad."The way he said everything so happily scared me.
Was this... Just a game to him?
"I don't see any running~" He cooed, taking a step towards me.
Without another thought, I jumped up and began darting down the alley like all hell was on my heels."Three."
I glanced around, hesitating for only a second before I saw a small room.
"Two."
With no other option, I ran inside. Two large chests sat in front of me surrounded by a bunch of other meaningless junk.
"One."
My breath hitched in my throat as I jumped into one of the chests, curling into myself.
I felt around for anything I could use to defend myself and only found one thing: a small picture frame.
'Good enough.' I thought, holding it tightly. In the silence, I heard footsteps which were gradually growing louder as they grew closer.
"Where'd she go?" A voice muttered, without a doubt the man I saw earlier. Then, I heard it. He stepped into the room, slamming the door shut and twisting the lock, trapping us both in here.
He stepped over to the chest next to mine, raising his axe and slicing through the lid.
I felt light-headed, my world was spinning. This would be the night that I die. That's when it happened.
All too soon, light flooded the small space I was crammed into. I squinted, seeing his tall figure towering above me with a foot resting on the wall of the chest."Found you."
