Begin Again

Chapter 9

MASON'S POV

There's nothing I could be wanting more now that I have Avery back. After years and years of wishing to hear her gentle voice again, the melody of her laughter, the rage of her noise and the tragedy that comes along with her silliness, I get to have it again and this time, I won't lose her again. I'd stand up for her. I'd stand up for my... best friend?

I raked my finger through my hair as thoughts clouded my mind.

Avery is not to be compared with. People see her as nobody, a nerd, someone you can pull a prank on, but no! If they only knew her, deep inside; How she cries her heart out everytime a neglected oldy passes by, seeing children on the streets, how faithfully and truthfully she struggles to pass every single subject, how she's willing to stand in the rain when her friend needs a shoulder to cry on, and yeah, tissues are running out of stock when she cries about heart breaking movies.

She's gentle and carefree, fragile, jolly and ridiculously smart! I don't know why students hate her back then and hit on her because of me. I was weak, I never get to protect her, I left her even for the fact that I cared for her. I was selfish and becoming more selfish until I am the Mason Carter everyone think I am.

The day she walked by me at school and ignored me, it tore my heart apart. She's grown as beautiful as an angel and strong as a molave. Instantly, I knew she wasn't the Avery I knew before, and for that, I was right. The roll of events from the past changed her.

I keep telling myself not to be too fast on her but my body seems to have a brain of its own! I don't feel any love for her in a friendly way anymore. I tease her and hit her to get myself close to her but I guess it just made her mad at me, I know she's affected though by the look on her reactions.

I think I love her. I've been wanting to be with her since we've learned that sun is the center of the universe but too scared that we won't work out. I mean, we know each other but being my best friend and my girl friend is entirely different. 

Should I tell her? Is it too early? Will she agree if I'd ask her to be my girl? Damn! I've been head over heels with her, even got her name tattooed on me! The thought of her being more gorgeous everyday, smoking hot and stronger now, it's just, she's gonna end my life!

"Mason?" Avery butted in shyly. "A-are you alright? We're about to reach home but you weren't sa-"

"I'm great" I answered back, giving her the idea that I'm not into bad vibes.

The drive was long and silent, I know she's uncomfortable. I found and held her hand, it's sweaty. She flinched a bit and I chuckled.

"I guess I should be the one asking you that, don't you think?" I asked her and shared a smile with her for seconds since I should be concentrating with my driving.

"Haha! You think?!" 

"Your hand's sweating"

"It's because of your car having a heater instead of an air con, dumb ass!" she yelled just inches away from my ears.

"Oh cummon Ave! I thought we're ok now?!" I scowled at her.

"Oh cummon Mase! You know how just glad I am to have my guy back!" Wait. What?! She mimics?!

I smiled, collecting her in my arms, bringing her body near mine and kissed her head.

I inhaled her sweet scent of strawberries and whispered loud enough for her to hear. "I missed you"

"I slightly miss you too, Mason"

"Thanks for the ride home, Mason. Be safe, yes?" she told me as she slid out of my car. She blew me a kiss, waving good bye as she ran into their front door.

"Take care, Ave!!" I called out and drove off.

Boring is the the drive home. I groaned. Zack and the others are clearly busy since they're not answering their phones. We started high school with foolishness and they'll graduate foolish. Well, me, I suddenly want to do something... worth... Yes! That's it!

I sent Avery a message.

"Thanks for the night, Ave. I'll see you first thing in the morning. M"

I parked my car and turned the ignition off when my phone beeped. It was from Ave.

"Is it just me or you're saying something I don't get? A"

"I just meant good night Ave. M" I chuckled while walking inside my house where everybody's looking at me.

"Sorry" I shrugged. "Just a text from someone" I told them as I ran to my room.

"I hope you aren't trying to fool anyone cause seriously? You're not convincing and I'm not buying it. A"

She really has a head of stone!

"Whatever you mean, I'm not into discussions so sweet dreams, angel. I love you. M" I hurriedly texted back, hit send and bam! Realization hit me. Did I just... told her I'm...

"Loveya too, dumbo. Nytie night! :) A"

I sighed in relief. At least, she didn't take it as how I really mean it.

I changed into my boxers and plopped down to bed. Memories of doing body shots with Avery and how she turns me on flooded my mind. Never did I had second thoughts that her body perfectly fits mine.

Crappy memoirs! I almost forgot.

"Hello. Good evening Mrs. Steele. Yeah, it's Mason. I just wanna ask if the room next to Ave's still vacant?"

"Why, yes. Still vacant since Troy graduated. We haven't got any occupant yet since I'm too busy to fix and repaint the wall"

"Oh, so can I rent the room then?"

"No problem, son. Tell me when so I can fix the room for you ASAP"

"Hmmm. Let's see. How 'bout tomorrow morning?"

"Isn't that too soon, Mason?"

"Sorry, Mrs. Steele. I just wanna be with Ave. So can I move in tomorrow, then?"

"Ok. There's nothing impossible for a supermom, son!"

"Haha! I'll never ever doubt that, Mrs. Steele. I'll see you!"

"Ok. Night, honey" and we hang up.

YES!!!!! I punched my fist into the air and jog to pack my things up. Perhaps, I should stay there at weekdays and here during weekends, or what?

Avery Steele. You were once mine and I let you slipped but you'll see. What's mine is mine and I swear to all that's holy, that I'll have you back.
