Potter did not take the news well. Days later, he was still sullen about it. They sat in the den. Draco was trying to finish the second side of his cube, while trying to not mess up the first. It seemed like it'd take forever, but he was determined to get it. Harry was sitting on a chair, probably reading. Granger had brought many books over, but he knew that Harry was a man of action. He saw things and reacted to them. He was not one to find answers in a book.
"This is... impossible!" Potter growled in dismay.
Draco snorted. "I assure you. It's very possible. I am determined to succeed."
"I-What? Oh, the cube. Wait, you can really joke about this? What if...."
Draco sighed and set his cube down. "Harry, I figured this out a long time ago."
"You... did?" Potter seemed surprised by this.
"If I thought that the counter spell was the answer, don't you think I would've tried harder? It would have been tricky to undo after the first month, if I knew what it was and who did it. There's no point to keep reading."
"What if it's not pern-ni-sis-ous."
Draco smirked at Harry's inability to say it. "It's permanent, Harry. It's practically a blood curse, now. There's no way a curse could last as long as it has if it weren't. And it also requires a specific counter curse to reverse, which could be anything if they created the spell or found it in a rare book. We wouldn't even know if it is the right spell, because my eyesight would not return immediately," he growled, annoyed.
Harry dropped his book on the table with a distinct thud that made Draco jump. "You're right."
"Sorry, I didn't mean to..." Draco said, quickly, not wanting to bring on Harry's ire.
"No, it's fine. You're right. I know what I have to do. I have to do my job."
"Umm..." Draco started, confused.
"I need to figure out who cursed you! He's the only one who knows the exact counter for it, and then we can go from there!" he said, determined.
Draco frowned. "Harry, there was a crowd, and I don't know who...."
"But there were witnesses. Madam Malkin said Anjos was there. Wait, I need a Pensieve! I'll write to the headmistress. Be right back!"
"Harry?"
Potter had already raced up the steps, and Draco started to fiddle with his cube, again. No point in following him as he thundered down ten minutes later. "That's sent. I need to talk to Ron and Hermione. Are you going to be alright?"
"What, you haven't ordered Kreacher to watch my every movement?" he drawled.
"I... umm... no? Should I?" Harry said, slowly.
"Really? No wards? I can walk out that front door, and you wouldn't know?"
"I didn't put a Trace on you."
Draco grimaced, but Potter did something. He was sure of it, and he waited, looking at where he thought his host was.
Potter broke under the pressure. "Alright, I'm sorry, but it's just a trip ward on the front door. You can leave, if you want. I just didn't want you to slip out on me without an explanation."
"I'm blind, Potter. I almost died the last time I roamed muggle London alone. I don't even know where we are."
"Oh, I can take you out if you want, or back to Diagon. I just... don't want to lose you."
