When both Macron and Mike had taken a seat in the car Mike noticed a little box in the other mans hand and he wondered, assuming it was for him, what was inside. He hoped it wasn't some french cheese...

"Is something wrong?". Macron was looking at him and moved the box away from Mikes gaze. Flustered, Mike shook his head and started driving towards the Restaurant which was a couple blocks away.

"Soo... How was the flight?", the vice president made an attempt at smalltalk. "It was alright.". Macron spoke in a monotone voice while looking straight ahead. "Do you like it in the US so far?". "Well I haven't had much time to really form an opinion considering you had to meet me after i had just arrived.". Mike gripped the steering wheel a little tighter as he silently drove them to their destination. He had expected Macron to be a little nicer or politer.

Time skip just because. They're in the restaurant now

Mike and Macron got seated at their table, they had already ordered fine wine and appetizers. Mike pulled the present he had bought for the french president out of a bag and handed it over. "For you, a little welcoming gift.". He nervously rubbed his hands on his thighs, waiting for the other mans reaction.

After Macron had opened the present Mike almost sighed in relief as said man smiled at him.
"It is very pretty, thank you Mr. Pence.". All the negative emotions Mike had had for the man disappeared at once. He grinned as a warm feeling made itself noticeable in his stomach as a reaction to Macrons sweet smile and angelic french accent.

"I have something for you too but I will give it to you after we have eaten." The vice president nodded and started making conversation with the (now a little more cheerful) french man. They talked about the differences of France and the US and laughed at each other's jokes because they both had middle aged man humour (i don't think Pence is middle age but whatever).

After the meal

"That was a most delightful american meal, Mr Pence.", Macron gave a content smile as he wiped his lips with a napkin. "I'm glad you liked it.", Mike smiled back and his gaze wandered expectantly to the little box Macron had brought. "Oh, right!", Macron handed it to the vice President who felt a tingle in his fingertips as he opened the box.

"Macaroons!", exclaimed Mike excitedly as he gazed  down upon the french cookies. "So you like my gift? These are a delicacy from my hometown.", Macron smirked and Mike nodded gratefully. "I would be very happy to share them with you...", expectantly the vice president looked at the french man who was quick to reply with a yes.

Mike bit into the first macaroon and it felt to him like he had just travelled France for the first time. It tasted just like he imagined the country would taste like, the flavour was unlike any American made macaroon he had ever eaten in his life. Macrons experience with the little round cookies seemed less intense than Mikes. "He probably eats them every day at home..." thought Mike to himself.

While they were eating macaroons and drinking fine wine, Mike thought this would be the perfect opportunity to tell Macron about why he should not make a deal with Donald Trump. "So, Mr. Macron, the reason I invited you here today..", Macron looked expectantly at him: "The thing about President Trump?", "Yes that, the truth is....... He will never pay you back the money you invest, he plans on exploiting you just to build that wall and you won't get anything in return! All in all, he's just a bad person... Trust me, I'm the vice president, he planned the whole thing with me."

"...Thank you for telling me this. I'll tell Trump that the deal is off when I meet with him." Replied Macron quietly, "But why on earth would you try to sabotage your own presidents plan?"
For a moment Mike was contemplating making up a lie to tell the frenchman but he felt oddly safe around Macron so he decided against it. "Some time ago president Trump and I.... We were a couple. And he...", Mikes throat began to feel tight as he said the words: "He cheated on me.". " Mr. Pence, I am so sorry to hear that..", responded Macron, startled at how personal this had become. "It's alright", smiled the vice President. "Thank you for not making this deal with Trump.".

After the dinner was over and both of the men had had their fair share of macaroons and conversation, Mike drove Macron back to his hotel. Once they had stopped outside the giant entrance of it, Mike began saying his goodbyes. "It was a most delightful evening with you, Mr. Macron. Such a shame it has to come to an end so soon...". "I quite enjoyed it as well... And as to it ending... perhaps I could stay a little longer in america and we could repeat an evening like this, i could also get to know the country better... And the people too.", Macron gave Mike a smirk as the vice President smiled at him. "That would be wonderful, just tell me whenever you want me to show you around or need me to arrange things for you.".

And with that Macron went back into the hotel, leaving Mike feeling butterflies in his stomach and confused about his feelings yet again.
