After creating a make shift bandage for my leg, I pushed on through the jungle. During the skirmish with the Red Dowwns, I had also lost my spear, which was brilliant. I needed another, and soon. Being weaponless out here was like suicide.
I suddenly trip, falling flat on my face. Nice. Hopefully no one saw that. I quickly turned around to see what I had tripped on, and saw a small, brown object covered in moss. What is that? Bending down, I swept the debris off the object and realized it was a wooden box. I unlatched the metal, and carefully opened the lid. Inside was a crinkled piece of paper. Picking it up, I realized it had words on it. Words that I could understand. And so, I began to read.
"I really need to visit Rockwell more. It's so energizing to be around someone of his experience that still has so much excitement for his work, and talking to him always helps me gain perspective.
As for the Island's ecological abnormalities, Rockwell reassured me that I was jumping to conclusions. He made a great point: Just because this place doesn't follow the scientific laws we're used to, doesn't mean it follows no scientific laws at all. After all, science is about discovery, and new discoveries can invalidate old principles.
So before I latch onto my theory, I need to gather more empirical evidence. Otherwise, I'm no scientist."
- Helena Walker
Interesting. This note is pretty old, so that means this place has been around for a while. And this, Helena Walker made some pretty good points, although for the most part I'm not 100% sure what she is talking about. Who's this 'Rockwell'? A close friend, maybe? And obviously they are working on something of the same type, or perhaps, studying? "As for the Island's ecological abnormalities," Yeah, she got that right. There's plenty of 'ecological abnormalities' here. Like, why are there dinosaurs? Hostile people? Giant green floating thingies? There must be something more going on here than what meets the eye. Normal environments don't work like this. And judging by the text, Helena seems to think so as well. Are there more of these notes around?
I search for a few minutes and find nothing.
Well, other people like me may need this, so I put the note back in the box and gently shut the lid. Then, I continue on my journey.
**********************************
The more I think about it, the more confused I become. I'm still not sure how I got to this island, (It is in fact an island, as confirmed by Helena's notes) or why I'm here. And if this place has been around for a while, how come the USA or another country hasn't found it? And why are the people here so... primitive? There doesn't appear to be any technology, at least not yet anyways.
Moving on from that matter, I have now constructed myself a bow and a few arrows in a hide bag around my waist. I've already practiced a bit, and I'm a pretty good shot, probably because of my diverse weaponry training from military school. It was an interesting class where we had to learn many kinds of weaponry combat to prepare us for any situation. Looks like it payed off. It's also currently getting dark, so I think I'll climb a tree and try to get some sleep. It's been a long day, after all.
Hi! So, I think I'm going to make a new cover for this book, because honestly this one's pretty lame. Hope you enjoyed the chapter!
