Through the Window

Chapter 2

All the air around me turned black. Icy frostbitten fingers grip my arm in the darkness. A shrill cry echoes from a distance. And I see the boy again...but this time laying on the ground not moving. I struggle to get out of the grip...Another one of the frozen people limps out from the shadows grabbing the boy by the wrist. The figure drags the boy away from me. I scream in frustration as I try once again to push the unknown cold figure off of me. I finally break free of its binding grasp. I spring out of the bed and rush to the place where I last saw the boy, my eyes scan the dark surrounding but only endless pitch-black meets my eyes...I kneel to the ground and scream in frustration.

"Jake!! Jake!! Wake up!" A voice shouts through my head.

I wake up to a blinding light being shined on me and my mom's desperate face from the side.

"M-Mom? What are you doing it's..." I glance at the clock. "1:00 in the morning..." I say groggily, rubbing my eyes.

"Honey! You were screaming so loudly I t-thought you were hurt or or or..." her voice trails off.

"No mom I'm fine. You can go back to bed."

"Are you sure honey?"

"Mom! Yes I'm fine I just need to sleep!" I say putting the pillow over my head.

"Well alright..." she walks away dimming the bright lights and closing my bedroom door.

I sit up remembering my dream of the boy and the frozen people. I grab my phone from my bedside table and quickly dial Willow's number, it rings for 5 seconds before she actually picks up.

"Dude..it's one in the morning."

"I know but I had a dream, willow...about him."

"ABOUT YOUR SOULMATE! Oh my gosh tell me everything Jake!"

"No it wasn't like that...it was a bad dream."

"What kind of bad dream??"

"I w-was in this dark and there were ice people and..." Willow cuts me off.

"Jake I'm coming over- we can't talk about this over the phone this is possibly really bad!"

I hang up the call with Willow and flop back onto my bed. The mattress springs creaking under my weight. My hand shakes as I steady myself sitting up.

The image of the boy being dragged away flashes through my brain. I slam my pillow against my bed in anger- wishing i could have done something to save him to stop...everything. I sit up straight feeling as though someone is watching me.

"Hello? I-is someone there?"

There is no response as a breeze of cold wind drifts through my room making me shiver.

"Hello! This anyone there!" I say louder. Nothing.

A knock at my door echoes through my room.

"Jake? Willow is here...are you sure everything is ok?" My mom asks demandingly through the closed door.

"Mom...yeah I said everything is fine I'll be right out."
I grab a green sweatshirt from my dresser and pull on some socks, heading to my door I glance back at the open window feeling chilled again.

I walk into the narrow hallway and I see Willow sitting on my couch in the living room. With a bag laying on the floor next to her.

"Willow! I have so much to tell you." I say running out into the living room.
