A/N: I've done some calculations and realized I will have to make these chapters longer to accommodate for episode length and additional scenes to add in. I've considered making each season a different book, depending on how many chapters this first season takes. So saddle up for a 2-in-1 chapter folks!
TW: Graphic scenes to follow that include sexual content and grief. Please be warned and advised if you choose to proceed.

I heard his rickety ol' pickup coming up the gravel long before I saw it. Perched in my tower I peered through the dusty glass as Kayce drove up to the front of the house.
What the hell were you doing out there yesterday? I thought as the truck doors swung open.
I watched my nephew jump down from the truck, one hand on top of his head to keep his hat on. I shifted my weight as I contemplated joining them, only to abandon that idea as I watched Kayce bring him over to Daddy and the wranglers, who were busy tacking up for the day's trip to herd buffalo.
Did he even notice I wasn't there? Everyone else sure was, even Jamie clamored up onto a damn horse. My upper lip curled in disgust as Kayce wandered over and hugged Beth.
"Careful, Kayce," I murmured. "She bites."
Disheartened, I pulled the blanket tighter around my shoulders and plopped back down onto my bed. Since everyone was going to be gone this afternoon, I might as well make better use of my free time.
I snatched my phone from the nightstand and blithely scrolled through it. Travis was the most recent message on my phone, but after last night I instantly deleted the contact.
Fuck you, you little fucker, I ridiculed.
Who else would be available on a Saturday? Andrew operated the auction house and wouldn't be done till closing, Mitch was probably working for his grandpa...I found Caleb's number buried deep in my messages.
[10:37] how soon can you be here
[10:39] shit mare
[10:39] I can ask someone else
[10:40] pick up or delivery
[10:42] delivery. back door
[10:43] gimme 30
Satisfied, I threw my phone and it landed with a cushioned thump on the bed. It had been a while since I'd seen Caleb. Years ago, after a rare occasion of consuming alcohol, he found me in the parking lot fumbling with my keys trying to drive home. Being the ol' fashioned gentleman that he was, Cal insisted I rode with him. When we got far enough down the road I had him pull over and I rode him. He played my game just the way I liked it: no flowers, no dates, and no bullshit.

Caleb was due to arrive any minute. I threw my oversized flannel over my naked body, buttoning it up quickly, and tiptoed swiftly downstairs, my eyes sweeping back and forth as I kept an eye out for Beth. I made it to the backdoor without any encounters as I peeked through the back window, waiting for his truck to pull up.
"That didn't take you very long, now did it?" her sharp voice rattled my spine.
Fuck me.
