Charlotte and Sako stared in horror at Jordan's body. His head was twisted around and six bullet holes leaked pools of blood onto the car.
"What the hell happened here?" Sako asked her sister. Charlotte shrugged and snapped a picture.
"I don't know. To be honest, I'm not sure that I want to. Whatever could have done this must have been powerful."
She snapped another photo from the side, then looked up at the destroyed roof of the Black and White building. "This place seems to be nothing but bad luck. Do the police have any idea what happened?"
"The building explosion was chalked up to a gas leak. As for him, they say he must have been up there when it happened. That he fell thirty stories onto this car. They can't explain the bullet holes though. None of the detectives have ever seen anything like it. They did say that they found fifty caliber shells among the rubble though. But there was no sight of such a weapon anywhere." She pulled an evidence bag out of her purse and handed it to Charlotte. A bullet casing with something carved on it. A skull wearing half a plague mask. The logo of Agony the assassin. Charlotte shook her head and grinned.
"Someone hired Agony to kill this son of a bitch. I guess that explains the bullet holes. He's the only man alive that can wield fifty caliber pistols. That also explains the lack of witnesses."
A shuffling sound caught their attention. They turned around and brandished their weapons, then quickly holstered them. Alex was stumbling toward them, his left arm in a sling. He smiled as he saw them. "What are you guys doing here?"
Sako raised an eyebrow. "I should be asking you that, young man. Shouldn't you be at home right now?"
Alex shrugged. "I had to make sure this bastard was dead. If it weren't for a friend, I'd be dead."
Charlotte pulled her phone out of her pocket. "Does your mother know you're here?"
Alex shook his head. "Absolutely not. She thinks that I'm with Frank."
Charlotte showed him her phone screen. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't call her."
"Because I'm your only living witness."
Charlotte cursed and placed her phone back in her pocket. "You were here when this happened?"
"That's right. I watched him fall over the edge."
"Would you happen to know who killed him?"
Alex looked up, then down. "Gravity?"
Sako rolled her eyes. "Alex, why are you stalling? You made it clear that you know what happened. What are you hiding?" Then, she saw the lipstick smudge on the edge of his lip. She smiled. "You were here with a girl, weren't you?"
Alex blushed. "Maybe. Are you going to tell mom?"
Charlotte looked into her nephew's mind. "He's telling half of the truth. He was here when it happened. But he didn't see him fall over the edge. Where is she, Alexander?"
Alex went quiet. "Where's who?"
Charlotte squeezed his arm. "I know that he broke your arm. I know you were here with Tamara. I know that she saved your life. I also know that Agony saved both of you. You can't hide anything from me, Alex."
Sako pulled her sister back. "Charlotte, calm down. Give him a chance to explain."
Charlotte let go of his arm and stepped back. "Fine. Have it your way." She walked to their car, leaving Alex and Sako alone.
Sako took her nephew's hand. "You love her, don't you?"
Alex nodded. "I do. I owe her everything. More than I care to admit. I couldn't forgive myself if anything happened to her."
Sako hugged him gently. "Just tell us where she is. I'll make sure that no one harms her. I promise."
Alex shook his head. "I don't know where she is. But, I know where she's going to be."
