Calvin jumped as he heard someone knock. He scratched his head. Who would be knocking at this hour? Especially at his door. It certainly wasn't the girl scouts. Maybe the police? Probably not, but worth a look anyhow.
He opened the door and jumped when he saw Alex standing there with a duffel bag full of clothes and his shotgun slung over his shoulder. "Sorry about barging in. I told mom I was coming to help you with something. I'm actually here for something else. They said you did Tamara's autopsy. I wanted to ask you about that."
Calvin waved him in and slammed the door behind him.
"Did anyone follow you?"
Alex shook his head. "No, I came alone. I made sure of that on my way over. I circled the block twice to be certain."
Calvin nodded and reached into his pocket. He held out Tamara's necklace. "She's still alive. I told them she was dead while I worked on an antidote to her venom. She went to this address. Give this to her when you see her would you?" He handed him the necklace and a slip of paper with Red's address on it.
Alex put them both in his jacket pocket. "If she was still alive, then why did you let her go? She killed everybody."
Calvin walked Alex to his desk and showed him the pictures he'd taken under the microscope. "Her tendrils. There's so much I can do with just this sample here. But that's not why I let her go. This is why," he showed him a blood test he'd taken.
Alex stared at it skeptically. He couldn't make heads or tails of it. "What's this supposed to mean?"
Calvin face-palmed and sighed. "Your friend is pregnant. That's what that little paper means. About a month along. Have you seen the news?"
Alex nodded. "Yeah. Someone has the same powers as Tamara. By the sound of it, he's doing it to get her attention."
Calvin reached under his desk and retrieved the vial of antivenom. "Take this with you as well. And be careful. If he's looking for Tamara, then she's in grave danger. She and her child."
Alex swished the blue liquid around. "What's in here?"
"Antivenom. If she injects you with the venom, then drink it. It'll save your life."
Alex slipped the vial into his pocket. "Thanks. I'll see you later."
He took off to his car and hurriedly entered the address into his GPS. He was less than four miles away. He could make it there in less than ten minutes depending on traffic. Yet, he wasn't sure whether he wanted to see her so soon. He'd seen how crazy a pregnant woman could be. If his mother was telling the truth, then Tamara had gone at least double that.
He shook his head to rid himself of doubts and drove off.
