The next morning was pretty underwhelming. It was a Monday which means we have school. Every morning I wake up early and make eggs and bacon with my mom. Today was surprisingly quiet. My dad had his coffee and read the paper at the table. Jenny ate quickly and took over an hour to get ready, Emma watched television, while Seth did the homework he didn’t do last night.

It was a pretty chill morning, and it was quite peaceful. But I know when seven-forty five comes and me, Jenny, and Seth drive in Jenny’s car to Honey Brook high school I knew it wasn’t gonna be good.

I always have been the most responsible sibling, which means none of them help anymore. Which I guess I understand, because I never let them do anything, because I have my own way of things. Emma rides the bus to school, so she has to be out the door by seven- thirty, so I was rushing to make her lunch.

“Emma! Your bus is here!” My mother calls. Emma walks into the kitchen and grabs her lunch and gives mom a hug goodbye. She walks out the door, her pigtails flapping with every step she took. She climbed aboard the bus and she was off.

“Jennifer, come eat your breakfast!” My dad yelled at the bottom of the stairs.

Jenny came crashing down the stairs wearing a flowy blush pink blouse and some light-blue skinny jeans and some beige flats.

“You look very lovely Jenny.” My mom complimented.

“Thanks mama.” She said as she took her seat at the dining table.

Jenny always looks pretty, she just naturally is beautiful. She hasn't looked at me yet today and that worries me. Seth was completely normal this morning. We talked about school and how my freshman year was going. He and Jenny are a year apart, Jenny a senior, Seth a junior, and me a sad ol’ freshman. Anywho… I was staring the clock down until it struck seven-forty five. I dreaded going to that silver two-thousand and one Chevrolet Cavalier that belonged to my sister. But when the clock had the big hand of the nine I knew I had to go.

“Ok, Jenny, Seth, and Nicky. Time for school!” My mother said enthusiastically.

“Ok!” Jenny said cheerfully as she got her denim backpack and strutted out the door.  Seth left too without saying goodbye. I was waiting until I absolutely had to go.

“Nicky? It's time for you to go” My mom said smiling.

“Yeah I know.” I said as I got my lunch and backpack and walked out the door. I walked to the car as slowly as possible and took my place in the passenger seat. We drove off and all was ok, until Jenny started talking.

“Nicky?”

“What?” I say carelessly.

“Do you wanna talk about last night?” My stomach started to turn and twist, and I felt breathless.

“What about it?” I say pretending I don't know what in God’s name she’s talking about. But I know exactly where this is going.

“Your secret.” She replied a bit slyly.

“Did you tell her!?” Seth cuts in. His eyes are wide and confused.

“Mom’s gonna hate this, you know.” She added.

“Jennifer! Shut up.” Seth can tell I'm uncomfortable.

“That's not you, Nicky. You're not like that, right?” She says in a tone that is so high pitched and almost baby-like it makes me want to rage.

“Just leave him. It’s not our problem,” Seth yells.

“But he should know-” He cuts her off.
