 Chapter One~

((a/n: Hazel is a year older than Nico here. owo Remember, this is an AU. Anything can happen. ))

Tears were streaming down Nico's cheek as he sniffed. His sight was blurry; probably because of crying so much. He stood alone at the entrance of the funeral. He didn't want to go in, or else he might break down worse than he already was. His shoulders were shaking and a small sob escaped his thin lips. He had bangs under his eyes and he looked pale. He wore dark clothes.

It was his older sister's funeral. She had died two days ago because of a terrible disease. Her name was Bianca, and Nico remembered how brightly she would smile at him and tell him everything was alright. She was the most cheery girl Nico had ever known... and now she was gone.

It wasn't fair, he thought as he wiped out the tears that were rolling down from his cheeks unsuccessfully. They seemed unstoppable, no matter how many times Nico wiped them out, more would stream down. His mother, Maria, the most beautiful woman in earth had died four years ago in a car accident.. Since that day, his life had been total misery. And the only reason Nico woke up every morning was because of Bianca; and now she was gone.

"Nico," called Nico's father as he walked towards Nico, and placed one hand on his trembling shoulders. Nico shoved it away and looked away, wiping harshly his tears with his sleeve.

He didn't want to talk with him nor with anyone else at the moment. But specially him. He hadn't been there for him when his mother died. Hell, this was the first time in two years he showed up.

"Go away," Nico croaked, still not looking at his father in the eye. He hung his head low, staring down at his feet.

Suddenly a thunder made young Nico jump; and then it started to rain. Huge drops of water poured down on them and soaked them both. It was the only thing that was missing; a more gloomier day.

Nico thought his father had left, but he was still there, staring down at his feet too. It was awkward. But Nico so wasn't going to talk to that monster had for a father. He didn't mind getting wet at all. So he stayed there, waiting for his father to leave him alone.

Finally, his father broke the silence. "I love you, Nico," was all he said in a low tone, and then, without another word, he left. Nico didn't believe him, though. If he really loved him, he would have been there for them when their mother had died. He wasn't, and never showed up until now. Now, that his sister was dead.

Another sob escaped his lips, and this time, Nico broke down. He slid down and hugged his knees, sobbing non-stop. He was probably going to have a pneumonia if he didn't get out of there and dried himself. But he didn't care if he did. Better, he thought. That way, I get to be with my family

Since that day, Nico forgot how to smile. He rarely talked, and if he did, all that would come out of his mouth were curses. He was taken in by his Aunt who lived in America. But his life didn't get any better.

Nico's Aunt was a middle age fat woman with short black hair and cold, dark brown eyes. She was mean towards everything that could move and breath. Her house was big, yet scary and gloomy. Nico would usually spot her talking to herself, muttering things Nico couldn't understand.

Apparently, she thought Nico was her servant, instead of nephew, because she would make him wash all the dished, dust all the furniture, clean the whole house, make breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the worst of all was the he wasn't allowed to eat anything without her permission.
