"Decorations"

Today was finally the day me and my salty husband seem to spend all year waiting for not valentines day or birthdays.

Christmas decoration day.

It was a holiday itself in the newly founded Tsukishima household that consisted of me, him and our two Golden retrievers that came along with me. when I told Kei about my new found holiday he simply planted a kiss on my head and called me a "dummy" and boy did I love it.

Kei had already lugged the Christmas tree and boxes of decorations out of the basement and into the living room, much to his protest, so the two of us could spend my entire day off decorating our home for the upcoming holiday, and all that was left to do the decorating, the food, presents and everything else we needed to make Christmas special already safely away in the spare bedroom.

Christmas was my favorite holiday, and whether Kei liked it or not, he always went all out with helping me and dealing with the dangerous accessories like the star and hanging the streamers. And i am so lucky to have a husband that is willing to share my excitement.

Kei placed most of the decorations around the house while i prepared the Christmas tree’s spot: right in front of the living room window, for everyone in the neighborhood to see. Although Kei disagreed because our neighbours were none other the the Kuroo family, a curse of bad luck as he described it.

By evening we were ready to put up the tree. His brother decided to by it for us as a house warming gift, meaning it’d take even more time to adorn in pretty ornaments and growing lights. working together to string the lights around the faux pine, and as soon as they were on, i plugged them in stepping back into his warm embrace as my head rests on his firm chest.

"So pretty" I said with a grin. Seeing it all lit up, even without any ornaments, never got old for me "Indeed it is" he spoke back my eyes unaware that it wasn't the tree he was staring at.

I dug into the big box of baubles and bulbs and passed one to Kei. "Here, put this one on first". He took the glass ball from me with a smile and put it up high, and then i pitched in with the rest of the lower branches. Me a mere 5'2 and Kei a shockingly 6'4 kind of made some things impossible.

We each went back and forth from the collection of ornaments to the tree, placing each one carefully. And it didn’t take long to get finished the tree looking like a piece of art. Kei looked into the box to find one ornament left. He took it out and handed it over to me. "You put the last one on." Just as he had done with the first one, I put it up high And then kei stood up on his toes and only slightly struggled to place the star on top.

I took a step back, looked at the tree up and down, and giggled. "It’s a little top heavy" I smile at him, Kei stood back with me and had to stifle his own laughter. “No it isn’t. It’s just childproof for when kuroo and Bokuto bring their demonic spawns over." A shudder running down his spine as I laugh.

I nodded, letting Kei have the excuse, but both of us knew he was the one who put all of his half of the ornaments on the top. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close, giving my forehead a kiss before saying,  "It really feels like home now" his soft lips meeting mine as we melt into each others arms. We were both so happy to be spending another Christmas with the person we loved most in the whole world.
