"Breakfast and presents"

Humming softly along with the instrumental Christmas music playing in the kitchen really brings a warm feeling to my chest, my santa apron the words "the most magical cook" written on it. It’s still relatively early, but I couldn’t sleep in today. I may be all grown up and married, but there’s something inside of me that still gets a thrill around Christmas time, the trees, lights, candles, presents really make it feel like a wonderful time.

Satori had still been sleeping when i slipped out of bed, but i decided to get a head start on breakfast anyway since he deserved it for being such a hard working husband, its what I love the most about him.

Cracking eggs to add to the pancake batter when a pair of arms wraps around my middle, and my husband presses a soft kiss to the nape of my neck before resting his chin gently on top of my freshly blow dried hair.

"Good morning my paradise" He says in a half-whisper, voice still a bit muddled with sleep and i swear I can hear the smile in his voice.

"Good morning to you aswell" I whisper back, wiping my hands down my apron before turning, reaching up to wrap my little arms around his neck. He rests his hands on the countertop, effectively trapping me there with his strong gaze.

"What’s all this for then huh?" He asks, surveying the bowl of batter and the skillet of bacon that’s just begun to crackle on the stovetop the sweet smell filling the air.

"Just felt like making a special Breakfast this morning." I respond simply, leaning up to press a kiss to the tip of his nose with a giggle. "Pancakes and bacon" he smiles licking his lips "and there’s some fresh fruit in the fridge and juice in the fridge aswell if you fancy it" my smile reflecting from his eyes.

We have only been married for five years, but these lazy mornings have become one of my favourite favourite new traditions.

"Mmm, what did I do to deserve you" He hums, leaning in to press a quick kiss to my lips. "I should be saying that to you" I retorted back. "Well then I guess I’d better leave you to it. I’ll get a quick shower until it’s ready, love you." His words sweet as he plants a peck and then walks back up stairs.

As soon as he leaves the kitchen, I'm back to work, humming the music to myself once more. I flick the coffee pot on so it starts brewing and start heating the pancake griddle.

While waiting for it to warm I glance out the window above the sink. It’s a cold, foggy overcast day without any snow in sight, but I don’t mind. Inside, our cozy home is warm and bright just the way we like it.

I just finished placing the last batch of pancakes on the table when Satori returns from his shower, hair still damp and smelling pleasingly of his shampoo, which is your personal favourite.

"Smells like pure heaven". He comments, coming alongside me at the table to survey my deliciously looking masterpiece. He pours me and him a mug of coffee and splashing the perfect amount of creamer into my one.

"Creamer is for the weak, you know."  He reminds me like he always does, teasing smile on his lips. "Guess I’m a weakling then, although when it comes down to the "nuts and bolts" of our bedroom life im definitely the stronger one".  I shrug, filling MY plate as I hear him laugh quietly.

Neither of us talk much while we eat, but it’s a comfortable silence, once finished we both head over to the couch. "We don't have to be a Wakatoshi's house for another 6 hours so let's chill till then" he smiles happily to himself.

"If only every morning was like this". I let a soft chuckle escape me. Slowly, i slide off the couch and kneel next to the tree, pushing aside presents until I find the small box topped with a bow that i had hidden away 6 days ago.

"Merry Christmas babe" I smile, presenting the box to him without being able to contain my excited smile.

"What’s this? Its a little early don't you think". He asks, gingerly taking it in his hands. "We said no presents this year - The new bed was our present", "I know babe, but trust me you'll like it" Clasping my hands together and waiting expectantly. "Honest to God, I didn’t get you anything". He mumbles, setting the box in his lap so he can lift his hands in surrender.

Tugging at one end of the bow. Finally, he has the bow undone and the wrapping paper torn off decorated with little yellow ducks and he lifts the lid. Nestled on the tissue paper is a thin plastic stick with the words 3-4 weeks written across it. He looks at it and then at me before lifting it out and peering in the tiny window.

“Wait. No. Hold on. Is this, are you serious" his eyes glistening as i nod frantically. He doesn’t even finish his question before tossing the box and the pregnancy test aside and standing, wrapping me in his arms and lifting me off the ground. "Holy shit this is so unreal" He says into my neck. He sets me down and cups my face in his hands kissing me thousands of times.

I eventually step back from him and quickly head over to the draw pulling out the doctors letter to confirm "I didn't notice it at first but look" as I lift my jumper exposing my slighty rounded belly as tears come to his eyes and he places his hand on my stomach "im about 3 and half weeks along" the words I just said going straight through him.

"I can’t believe this. We’re going to be parents. I’m going to be... a dad." , "yeah you are" I laugh softly. "You’re going to be a great dad to our baby" He hugs me close again, sitting back down on the couch and pulling me down so he can nustle into my body "this is the best present ever".
