It was 3 o'clock in the morning when she showed back up at the tower. She stumbled through the doors, slouching against the wall of the elevator as she rode up. When she stumbled out into what she thought would be an empty hallway she was met by the figures of Widget and Dad, Widget looking half-asleep and in pajamas, Dad still in his suit and looking furious. She stared at the two of them, bleary eyed, clutching her new jacket and purse to her chest.
"What the hell happened?! Mayhem you look terrible!" Widget exclaimed sounding angry but shocked at the same time. "And don't you ever shut off my GPS implant again!" He added, pointing a finger at her as she tried to get her eyes to focus on him, looking rather like a confused puppy who didn't understand why they were in trouble.
"Mayhem are you drunk?" Came Dad's voice, sounding severe and furious. She swiveled her head to look at him. Her eyes were wide, pupils dilating as she tried to make sense, face furrowing in confusion.
"Wh-why are you on Twitch's floor?" She asked, ignoring their questions.
"Because you showed up on the security tapes!" Widget responded angrily. "And it's been 3 days since anyone heard anything!" Dad didn't say anything more, but reached out to grab Mayhem's shoulder as she stumbled somewhat. She whimpered at the contact, pulling away quickly as it stung the still-healing cuts. Dad's eyebrows furrowed as he then pulled at her jacket, despite her struggling.
"May you need to see a doctor." He then said firmly, noting the hollow look of her face and the deep bags under her eyes. "What did you take?" He then asked, grabbing her arm as she pulled feebly away from him, whining like a child.
"I don't need a doctor I need to see him!" She cried out angrily as Dad started to push her back towards the elevator.
"Wait, what?" Widget said, staring at Dad looking confused.
"Damnit Widge, help me. Look at the way her fingers are shaking the blotchiness of her skin! She's been using something. May, Mayhem, you gotta sober up and tell me what you took." Dad was trying to hold both arms, looking for tell-tale bruises on the inside of her elbows as she tried to squirm away from him.
"I need to see him! I need to see Twitch!" She called out again as Widget, looking rather horrified and confused grabbed at her other arm. Evasively Mayhem then let her legs to slack so the two of them dropped her, unable to support the sudden added weight as she began scrabbling away on her hands and knees.
"Mayhem your no good to Twitch if your dead!" Dad cried out, his usually smoothed hair falling out of place as he grabbed at her again. She cried out again, as he pinned her arms to her side lifting her back up.
"Not to mention I'm not sure Twitch wants to see anyone right now-" He added, grunting in effort as Mayhem whined and kicked at him, twisting her body away as best she could.
"I don't care! I need to see him! Twitch! Twitch!" She started to yell, biting down on Dad's arm which made him cry out, surprised, shoving her away from him so she landed on her knees again.
"She's actually crazy." Widget said, looking terrified and shocked as he stared at her trying to stand up and failing.
"No, her body's just processing way to much Jameson whiskey and then whatever other crap left in her." Dad said irritably, holding his arms as he started to call for back up. Mayhem found her footing and began to run, tripping and catching herself against the wall, Widget and Dad following after her but afraid to touch her. She had lowered her voice to a hoarse whisper but had never stopped calling out for Twitch.
"Twitch! I need to see Twitch! Where are you hiding him? I need to..." She reached his door and Widget moved to stop her from grabbing the handle but Mayhem shrieked again and Dad held him back.
"Just wait till they get here, we'll knock her out and take her to the infirmary then." He said in a hushed voice as Mayhem opened Twitches door, fingers shaking violently as she gripped the knob. Then she was launching herself across the room towards the bed where Twitch lay, where she suddenly froze, looking down at his face.
Her whimpering didn't stop, or the crying but it changed in tone, as she then began to gently touch his hair, his cheeks, and then the bandages on his arms, starting to cry more openly as she asked no one in particular,
"Is he dead? Did I kill him? I didn't want to! What's wrong with his arms? Did I do that? Twitch wake up! Twitch don't be dead!" She started yelling again, pressing her mouth to the backs of his fingers, to the top of his head, shaking him to wake him up. At that point Widget and Dad reached out and started trying to hold her back as she cried out in agony, trying to stay near Twitch in her frenzied state.
