Jason's POV
My first reflex is to run downstairs and make sure everything is okay, but as soon as I take a step to go, I stop myself. Whatever is going on with Ariel, Jen, and Josh, they probably don't want me involved. Also, I'm guessing the scream wasn't loud enough for everyone in the kitchen to hear, because no one is coming.
I remove my hand from my mouth, and listen to the sound coming from downstairs.
"Why'd you scream?" I hear Josh say.
"There's a spider right behind you!" Ariel says, sounding pretty shaken up.
"Ew! Get it away from me!" Josh shouts. I quietly laugh, as he whines like a little girl.
"It's okay, I got it." Jen says between laughs.
I hear her footsteps, and after a few moments she says, "See? All gone."
"That was disgusting." Josh says.
"Your such a girl," Jen answers. "Now, are we gonna play Just Dance or what?"
"Sure," Ariel answers, sounding calmer, but now bored. "Shouldn't we get Jason?"
"He was talking to Ben at the table, meaning he's busy." Josh says.
At that moment, I run downstairs, and say, "I'm here!"
"Have you been listening to us all this time?!" Jen says.
"Maybe," I chuckle.
"Please don't tell me you heard me shout about..."
"The spider? Yeah, I heard that." I finish Josh's sentence.
Jen bursts out laughing, and Josh rolls his eyes.
"Okay, so we've got Just Dance games from 2010 to 2013. Which one do you guys want to play with?" Jen says, looking at a set of disks.
"What's the difference?" Ariel says. I look over to her, who doesn't look very comfy. She's sitting on a chair, holding on to her shoulders.
"Are you cold?" I ask her.
"Oh...just a little, but it's okay." She says, slightly smiling.
"I could lend you a sweater...but I don't have one." I say, feeling bad. Of course, when someone needs help, I'm never there for them.
"Here, take my sweater." Josh says, handing her a thick black sweater.
"Thanks." Ariel takes it and puts it over her like a blanket instead of actually putting it on like you're supposed to.
"To answer your question, the difference between the years for the game is pretty much the songs. Each year has the most popular songs of that year." Jen says.
"Oh, well then I don't mind." Ariel answers.
"Me neither." I add.
"Okay, then let's take...2010." Jen takes out a disk and puts it in the WII. Earlier, when we were playing in the game room, I played WII sports and won all badminton matches against both girls. Also, I almost hit Jen in the head with my remote, but thankfully she moved out of the way at the right time.
After about ten minutes of Jen and Josh trying to make the game work, Jen asked, "Okay, who's on my team?"
"Me!" I call out, and stand next to her.
"Then I guess Ariel is with me." Josh says. We all turn to her, and find her cuddled up on the chair, asleep. "Or not." He says.
"Can I wake her up? I can jump on her, that'd be really funny. Or put some really loud mus-"
"We're not waking her up, Jason." Jennifer interrupts me. "We can play another time. She's had a long day. You did too."
"And it's almost nine. Aren't you tired?" Josh says, checking his watch.
"How is it almost nine? I'm not even close to being tired." I say.
"They say when you're having fun time seems to go faster." Josh shrugs.
"So you had fun on your first day?" Jen asks, sounding hopeful.
"Of course. I really like this place, and you guys."
Jen and Josh look at each other and smile.
"Oh..." Jen stops smiling.
"What?" Josh and I say together.
"I forgot to show the top floor! You guys haven't seen your rooms yet!" Jennifer says, sounding really upset.
"It's fine." I say, laughing. "I can sleep on the couch so that tomorrow Ariel and I can see it at the same time."
Jennifer frowns. "Are you sure? I can wake up Ariel."
"I thought you didn't want to-"
"Shut up, Josh." Jen says. Josh puts his head down, but I can see him chuckling. I suddenly unexpectedly yawn, and Jennifer shouts, "Ha! I knew you were tired!"
"You know, Ariel is sleeping. You're going to wake her up." Josh says. Jennifer glares at him, and he turns towards the stairs. "I'm going to go upstairs now." And he runs off.
"I'm fine." I say to Jen. "I'm not tired at..." Again, I yawn. She crosses her arms, and I realize there's no way I'm going to win this. "Fine, I'll just sleep here."
I sit on the couch beside Ariel, and immediately, I feel really tired.
Jennifer starts, "But you have to put your pyjamas on. And brush your teeth! And maybe you should go say goodnight to everyone upstairs. Only if you want to though, I don't want to put to much pressure on-"
I stop listening to her after awhile, and I drift myself to sleep, allowing my nightmares to come back.
