Since the throne room was one of the only rooms in the castle that had lights, it was blinding at first walking in. Gaurds were lined against the walls-one every three feet if you bothered calculating. I looked down, and could only hope Yugi would too. By the way the chairs were assembled and the meak whispers I heard before I walked in, there was an important meeting underway. Interrupting a meeting could result in harsh punishment. My heart thumped wildly in my chest, and I looked up for a fraction of a second to see Yugi. The corner of his mouth was turned up into a tiny smile, and his eyes targeted the ground yet they were full of detirmination.
That's my little Yugi.
"You wish to speak to me, correct?" A voice boomed over the whispers. I reconized it well.
I nodded.
The whispers instantly fired up again but this time louder and rapidly flitting through the air.
"It's a human!"
"No, it must be one of those GS people the King was talking about."
"It can't be true.."
"Can he save us?""Do you think he knows about-"
"Silence!" The King yelled.Footsteps. A few collected gaps were heard-the King must be coming to us.
"You may look up."
I slowly raised my head and my eyes followed much slower.
"K-King?" A gasped as the King stood before me. He was smiling and his head was tilted, and he was slightly blushing.
"Welcome back-Kabo!"
A few weak cheers were heard, and the King gave me a hug.
I was frozen in shock, the King chucked. I quickly regained my composure."Welcome back, Warrior Yami-Kabo!" The King yelled again, and this time more cheers were heard. I realized they didn't reconize me.
"This was your Speaker, correct?" The King said peering closer. He had about the same height of Yugi-but of course no one would admit that. I warily nodded.
"This one's name was Duke, right?" The King asked me. He hadn't addressed Yugi yet-so I was glad he hadn't spoken.
"No I was assigned to Yugi, sir."
"Wonderful-Welcome Speaker Yugi. We shall have a feast in honor of your arrival! Would you like to meet the other Speakers that have already arrived?"
Yugi looked up, relief clouding his eyes. My felt my heart beat quicker, giving off an unfamiliar pang of warmth.
"Yes, that would be nice.."
The King waved over one of the stationed guards. It was a few awkward seconds as the spirit in heavy armor trotted over to us.
"Yes your majesty?"
"Please introduce this Speaker to the other two."
The guard dipped his head, and started walking.
"But Yami-"
"You will see him later."
I gulped.
Yugi gave me a stare-and unspoken words seemed to pass through us.
Be careful.
You too.
Then Yugi left. The King dismissed the meeting and ordered all the guards to leave.
"But your ma-!"
The King raised a hand.
"No. Go outside it will be fine."
They retreated leaving me in the throne room with the King.
"Yami, do you know why I called you here?"
"I have a pretty good idea.."
"Why is that?"
"You want to perform the ceremony."
"Correct. I always knew you were the brightest of the warriors." I cringed slightly remembering my training days. Ruthless days of non-stop military drills and technique exercises that could make any spirit fall to his knees crying out in agony.
My motivation was protecting Yugi, whereas almost everyone else had different thoughts.
The riches of the ceremony.
"As I remember, you stated you did not want to perform the ceremony?"
I nodded weakly, feeling my legs start to wobble.
"It shall be done with or without your consent."
"You can't do it! Yugi's not ready, he hasn't been trained!" I yelled my arms flying around as I spoke. I instantly regretted raising my voice, and I awaited punishment.
"I'm sorry Yami. It has to be done. If it isn't the Spirit World will rot and decay, leaving nothing but hidden scars on the face of the galaxy."
I thought for a moment but only one word filled my mind.
Yugi.
"Where is Yugi?!?"
"He is taken care of. Do you want some tea?"
"W-What? Tea?! No!! Where's Yugi, what have you done to him!"
The King shook his head.
"Yami if you don't calm down I'll have to-"
I slammed my fist down on the table next to him.
"Where is Yugi!" I roared getting into his face.
"I warned you.." The King cried out, and a few guard came in taking me by the arms.
"What! You can't do this, he's only a child!"
The King came closer, standing right in front of the door.
"I will punish you, if your my son or not. You will not see Yugi until the end of the ceremony. I forbid it."
My eyes widened, and the door slammed in my face.
What have I done.
What have I done!
