The sun is up in the blue sky and heat mix with humidity, making me all sweaty. Usually, I'm not a huge fan of this weather, but today nothing can bother me. Today is a great day. Everybody knows that girls love to play with dolls, and even if I'm a big girl, I love it the same way.
With Pete's avatar between my hands, I plan the possible punishments that I have in store for him. I think I'll start with a simple headache, something light but that'll surely put him in a bad mood. I'd do anything to ruin his day. I press lightly on the doll's forehead, imagining the man's face instead. I smirk picturing his reaction in my head, the way his eyebrows would crease in distress while groans of pain would leave his mouth.
A couple of hours later, I think it'd be fun adding a bit of a back pain, making him feel like and old helpless man. With my fingertip, I touch some spots on the back of the stuffed statuette, as an evil laugh leaves my lips. A part of me reminds me to be cautious and limit his sufferings, but it feels nice to be naughty sometimes. I don't know how intense these back pains are, but I wonder if he's crawling on the ground screaming in agony.
When it's teatime, I'm happily pushing the spot where his stomach should be. I'm sure that by now he's nauseous and he's hopefully throwing up, tightening his belly in pain. If I did everything correctly, he's vomiting some weird slimy substance, absolutely disgusting. In my head, I'm discussing if I reached the limit, but then the most wicked idea comes to my mind.
I hide in my bedroom with the voodoo doll and I bring with me some water. I could simply drop the puppet in it and let it drown, but I don't want Pete to die. Or at least not now. Instead, I let a few drops of the liquid fall on his face while I recite a little spell. I'm sure that right now he's shitting himself, thinking he's probably about to die. Damn it, I would pay to see his reaction!
As I'm considering breaking some of the man's bones, my phone lights up. It's a message from Shawn.
Shawn: I need to see you right now. Come to the fields.
He sounds pretty bossy and I would be lying if I said that his demeanor didn't twits my guts with excitement. I know, I need to calm down, but I'm so freaking euphoric right now. I've never used my powers to hurt someone, and I have to admit that it feels good. Now, my ego is ten times bigger.
When I arrive at the fields though, I'm met with a cranky Shawn. He looks at me from his height, his eyes reduced to a slit, his nostrils expanding rhythmically, his jaw clenched. He's quite angry. When he addresses me, he doesn't even greet me. His voice is harsh and cold and I'm kind of confused. Why is he mad?
«Camila, you have to stop whatever the fuck you're doing. Right. Fucking. Now ». He's not screaming, but his composure is equally intimidating.
I'm surprised to hear myself stuttering. «Wh – what are you talking about? »
He puffs angrily. «Don't play dumb with me. What are you doing to my father? ». I don't dare to say a word, feeling a little ashamed by my actions. «Camila, I'm talking to you! What kind of sorcery did you cast on my dad? »
Even if I'm the one who did all the damages, I'm really pissed that he's accusing me without any evidence. «Who's telling you that I'm the one doing something? » I retort.
«Oh, come on! Who else would have been? »
«This town is overcrowded by witches, why are you accusing me? »
He glares at me and I'm lucky that looks can't kill. «Name one single person of this town who has noticed my father and cares to make his life a living hell».
I look away and say nothing, tapping my foot on the ground anxiously. This, kind of gives me away.
«Look» he says. «I don't know what you are doing, how and why, but please, make it stop. Okay?». He speaks firmly and his voice is emotionless. I know I made a huge mistake acting like I did, and now I'm scared of losing the only real friend that I've ever had. So I try to justify my actions.
«I'm sorry, okay? But I did it for you! »
Shawn shakes his head in disbelief and throws his hands in the air. «I've never asked you to do such a thing! Are you crazy? ». He's now screaming and I think I've just messed everything up even more.
«Sorry, but I told you I really hate your father. The fact that he lives his life unpunished just makes me lose my mind. I know it's none of my business, but I have magic and I decided to use it. I don't care if you like it or not! »
«So, what? Every time someone will piss you off you're gonna curse him? My father bled from his fucking eyes, Camila! That's insane! Are you telling me that if one day I'll make some dumb move and hurt you, you're gonna make me bleed too? Does it work like that? ». He's fuming right now and I don't know what to do.
«No, of course not! I don't hate you. I would never do such a thing to you! »
«What if it's not me? Would you use your power like that on someone else ? » I shut my mouth just for a second, but Shawn takes my almost inexistent silence as an answer. «I can't believe it. My grandfather was right all this fucking time! Jesus Christ! ». He runs a hand through his hair, then speaks again. «Listen carefully, now. I'm telling you to stop that bloody spell that you casted on my father and never try to do it again. Do you hear me? »
His words sound like a threat and, even if I'm not scared by a simple boy, I'm on the verge or tears. My voice quivers when I speak. «Or else? What are you gonna do? »
He spares me a last glance before turning away from me. «I can't do anything to stop you, but I can erase you from my life». He quickly walks away from me and I'm left there, alone, with my heart shattered.
