CHAPTER 5
IAN'S P.O.V
"You okay?" Nat whispered to me as I shifted uncomfortably in my seat beside him yet again. I looked around the room, watching as grips set up the pool chairs around us. I sighed, motioning for him to turn off the mic clipped to his shirt. He did, giving me a quizzical look.
"My ass is sore." I whispered to him. "This lounge chair feels like sitting on a broomstick."
"What? Why would..." Nat trailed off, realization dawning on him. "Who? Oh! Was it that Adriel guy? I saw you talking to him last night when Jamie picked me up."
"Um... not exactly." I looked around, making sure no one was paying us any attention. "I figured I might as well... partake in an old favorite."
Nat looked at me like I had grown another head, clearly not understanding me. Nat was a bit more innocent than one would think. Despite his cute face he had almost no experience, shacking up with the first guy he ever slept with. Lame.
I rolled my eyes, motioning with my head to Mickey and Nik standing on the other side of the pool, playfully shoving each other closer to the edge. Nat looked, still trying to put my words together. "Wait... you're the biter!" Nat declared, lowering his voice when I gave him a startled look. "You did that to Nikolai's neck. How did I not notice? You did that in high school too."
"Well... it's not on purpose but yeah. You caught me." I chuckled, stopping as nat frowned at me. "What?"
"If you guys are back together, shouldn't you tell your dad? You can't really date other people at the same time." Nat pointed out.
"We aren't back together." I responded, rolling my eyes again as Nat['s jaw dropped. "Seriously, Nat. People can have sex just for fun."
"You and Nikolai though?" Nat cried incredulously. "Nikolai is not the free love type."
"Um he was free enough with it while we were dating and he was messing with Shaun." I grumbled, pushing that imagery from my head.
"Shaun forced him, though, didn't he?"
"Did he hold a gun to his head?" I scoffed.
"Do you even like him?" Nat asked instead. "You haven't wanted him around this whole time. You avoided him like the plague after school ended. I thought you hated him."
"Hate is... you have to care a lot to hate someone. I don't do hate." I shrugged, watching Nik lean into Mickeys side, whispering something is Mickey's ear. Mickey laughed, shoving Nik again. "Nik and I... we're compatible. Sexually I mean. That's pretty much the only way we're compatible."
"Nikolai doesn't hook up with people. Even in highschool before you guys dated, he exclusively dated one person at a time. In the last few years he hasn't been with anyone." Nat reminded me.
Right. Nik was an interesting case in that regard. He didn't just sleep with whoever was around. He was selective. It was what interested me from the start. He'd pick a girl out and focus all of his attention on her. He slept with just her, dated just her, and barely spoke to anyone else. Then, one day, things would be over. The separation was just as discreet as the relationship, so much so you could have hardly known they were together at all if you weren't in the know. After a time, Nikolai would pick another girl and mumblings would begin to circulate again.
His ex's hardly had anything in common. I had known quite a few. Some were short, tall, skinny, fat, blonde, and brunette. There were independent women and lovesick girls. Some dressed like instagram baddies and others had dark academia vibes. It was a melting pot of a variety of women, all seemingly unique. All they had in common was Nik had approached them, offering them himself in exchange for their undivided attention. No one ever refused.
