Chapter 2: the meeting

The trees were getting thicker and taller as I made my way to the meeting place. The tallest tree was in the middle of this forest, and was the oldest of them all. As I reached this magnificent tree, I decided to hide myself in its thick and long branches because it seems that I am first to arrive here. I made myself comfortable and well hidden as I waited for any others to come.

I had fallen asleep, and was woken by sounds below. I quietly shifted in my position to look down to see what it was. A person by the sound of it... I thought to myself, eyes narrowing. It was indeed a person, in ragged clothes and black hair tied back with a strip of cloth. I became alert at once as I realized who it was. My friend, Angelica's, older brother. So he survived to... I thought to myself, well I supposed he would know things about edible plants having lived in a flower shop.

Soon after him came others, mostly boys though... One girl arrived at sunset, Grace. Of course Miss Perfect survived, she is perfect after all. The best of the best, the most talented in our school... when we had one... They all weren’t well groomed or wearing anything flashy. Only Grace wore a fashionable leather outfit. Most had some sort of knife with them from what I can see. There was an awkward silence between everyone...

1, 2, 3 … 12 people have come, including me. Then Dreck arrived, walked up to the group in leather armor, a sword, a full quiver, and a bow slung across his shoulder. 13 people. It is very surprising to see such a number of people survive... though the odd thing was that there were no adults...

“Thank you all for coming,” Dreck began. Everyone turned in unison towards his voice, by now the sun had set so he held a torch. “My name is Dreck as you know from the letter I had sent out by hawk.”

“How did you know our names and where we were? Most of us here have been surviving alone.” a rather thin boy questioned.

“... I was meditating a few days ago and had a vision of the people who have survived from the explosion fighting the magic users.” Dreck replied. “Which is what I hope to achieve... To punish those who have forced us to live like this.” He gestured to every one's torn and makeshift clothing and tools.

“But,” the teenager interrupted again, “if we are to even put up a fight against these ‘magic users’ don’t you think we would need to be better armed than this?” He waved he hand at every one’s makeshift weapons.

Dreck nodded, “Preparations will be made over time, we will work together to ensure our survival first. Then we can train ourselves in the ways of combat.” Everyone seemed to agree with the suggestion. Then Dreck added, “And Robin, would you care to join us in our quest for survival?” He turned to stare at the tree branch in which I was crouched on.
