Brendan's POV:
I was walking to school when I heard this laugh. The laugh sounded sweet and gentle. It came from the parking lot of the school. It's a girl I've never seen before. I can't believe this girl is actually enjoying herself when she wasn't even popular. She was with her father who was tall, but looked skinny like he's haven't been fed for a week. Is she poor?
"Have a good day!"
"I will! Bye dad!"She's seems happy to be poor. But she's kind of attractive if you ask me. I can't believe I never noticed her.
I thought for a minute. Should I talk to her? What if she doesn't like me. Do I like her?
"Just forget about it" my friend Jason said.
"How long were you standing there?"
"The whole conversation you were having with yourself"
Shoot. I didn't want anyone to know that I even had the slightest crush on a girl that's not popular."It's not like she's popular. You need to date a girl that everyone knows. You need fame."
I never cared about fame. I cared about if I liked the girl or not.
"Take Sophia Gastino for example. The most popular girl with the most popular guy." Says Jason feeling good about saying a compliment.
I was not impressed.
"I DON'T CARE HOW POPULAR I AM. The word popular sounds too girlish." I was getting angry about how people were saying, date her 'cause everyone likes her. It makes me so mad.
"Your right. The word popular
does sound girlish. The word for boys is cool. Hey look! It's Sophie!""Hey Jason, hey Brendan." She said that like she was more attracted to me than Jason. "Taylor, Ashley please leave now" she said trying to seem nice. I don't understand girls. "Hey Brendan, do you want to go to the mall with me after school today?"
I really don't want to 'cause I think Sophie's a little annoying.
"Ummm...""Great see you then!"
"Sophie wait!"Then she was gone. Now I'm stuck with going to the mall with her because if I don't, she going to make a big deal about it and I really don't like too much attention.
"I can really see you guys together now."
"SHUT UP JASON!"
"Wow sorry..."
I don't like Sophie at all. She's rude to girls that do nothing. I promised my soul that I will never ever date her. I nodded to myself.
"See you later Jason."
I walked away with my head facing the ground. I had to figure out a way to prevent Sophia from taking me to the mall.I thought about it in math class, I thought about it in science and in history but there was no way of doing it without making a fuss.
I was in English, daydreaming away until I noticed that girl I saw in the parking lot was in my class. Is she new? I can't believe I never even noticed someone that is in my class. I'm supposed to know everyone.
I wonder what her name is?
"Coral! Can I borrow a pencil?"
"Sure Gwyn. Here."
"Thanks"So it's Coral. Makes sense. She has beautiful red hair with freckles. Sounds like a Coral to me. Maybe I should say hi.
But what if she doesn't like guys that try to be cool. I hope I don't try too hard.It was lunch and I had no appetite because it reminds me of the mall and the mall reminds me of Sophie. Oh no. There's Taylor and Ashley and when those two are nearby so is Sophie.
"Brendan come with us." Taylor said very demanding.
"Why?" I asked
"Sophie needs you."Ashley had this guilty look on her face as the words came out of her mouth so I knew something was up.
"I really don't have time and..."
"You have to come!" Taylor was on the verge of tears."Sophie really needs help!" Ashley said with tears running down her cheek.
I knew I had no choice but to follow them. When we found Sophie she ran to me.
"It's a disaster!" Sophie yelled.
"I thought red looked best on me, but now I think orange also looks good on me and I don't know which ones better!"You're kidding. This is her big problem.
"Why are you asking me?""Because you're the cutest boy in school and whatever you like better, I like better."
To be honest I don't think any of those colours looked good on her.
"You would look best in blue 'cause it matches your eyes."
"I knew it!" She yelled in relief.
I had no idea what she was talking about.
She giggled."Can't wait to see you at the mall Brendan!" She skipped away
Even if I had the flue she would find a way to spend time with me. I hope this is just a dream.
