Kayla's POV:
// 5 years ago //
I tugged the ends of my worn, blue rain jacket closer to my body, as the rotting wooden walls groaned in retaliation. With the combined forces of the wind and heavy sheets of rain terrorizing the town, this rickety, dilapidated shed I was taking cover under, was not going to hold much longer. I released the nervous breath I was holding in; watching it become a white puff in front of me as my eyes scanned over the dust covered interior.
He better get here soon...
I stiffened, as a barely audible shuffle came from what sounded like just outside my temporary safe haven. I took a few cautionary steps back, just in case; pressing my back against the moldy walls. The smell of rotting wood filled my nose as I breathed in deeply, desperately trying to slow my racing heart. The fingers on my left hand brushed what seemed to be a crowbar. I wrapped my hand around it tightly; drawing it in close to my chest. With every footstep that reached my ears, my heart stopped for a brief moment from fear, before returning to the previous speed of helicopter blades. Time seemed to move in slow motion, just like in the movies.
And then, the door flew open.
"Thank god," I exhaled in relief before releasing my measly weapon, and flinging my arms around Luke, despite the fact that he was sopping wet. "You scared me to freaking death!" I laughed slightly as I tried to desperately catch my breath. I leaned back to plant a soft kiss on his lips, however, as I leaned in, he leaned an equal distance away from me, leaving my lips puckered in the air.
"Luke..." I trailed off; hurt dripping from my words. "What's the matter?" I tried to scan his eyes to try to figure out what he was feeling at the moment, but he was determined to look anywhere, but at me.
"Kayla, we need to talk..." He sighed, running a hand through his wet, dirty blonde hair.
"Yeah, I kinda figured that when you texted me to meet you here at 11 at night during the worst storm of the year." I snorted, biting my lip as I waited for him to continue. Slowly, he lowered his gaze down to mine. The look he cast at me, was a pain filled one.
"We can't be seeing each other anymore, Kayla."
His words were like a punch in the gut, knocking the wind out of me.
"Wh-what?" The shock and hurt was blatantly obvious as I spoke; feeling my heart practically sink down to my feet.
"I'm leaving. Leaving to go tour with the guys." He sighed, searching my face for anything during a brief moment of silence between us. Finding none, he continued. "This is a really big opportunity for us, an-"
"I know, I get it." I held up a hand, silencing him. "I understand how much this means to you guys, and I'm happy for you guys; I really am! But I don't... understand why we have to…break up..." My voice cracked as I pushed back the tears that were threatening to overflow from the massive bomb he just dropped. For a brief moment, sympathy and regret flashed across his face, but when I blinked, it was back to being completely blank.
. "I need to focus on my music, K. I can't have some girl get in the way of that."
His words slashed and cut me like a million tiny knives. Each one embedding itself in my heart. The hypothetical pain from that would probably hurt much less, than the emotional pain he was causing me now.
"Some girl?!" I laughed humorlessly. "Is that all I am to you? Some girl." I scanned over his features, desperately searching for any hint that he was joking. That Ashton Kutcher would pop up and the camera men would laugh at how gullible I am, and Luke would apologize, kiss me passionately and hug the living daylight out of me.
But all that met me was a wall of silence, and his emotionless expression.
"Well," I whispered, setting my jaw. "Have fun on your tour." I hissed before shoving past him, and stomping out of the door. An icy wall of wind met me as I stormed out of the shed; my tears getting lost in the rain.
The sad thing is, I half expected him to grab my arm with his calloused fingers - due to so many years of slaving away on the guitar - and take me back. Yet, as I got further and further away, getting more and more drenched as the rain and wind whipped me as I went along, my hope and faith, began to diminish.

Hello! :)
My name's Kaitlyn (if you didn't know already). NIce to meet you! :)
Hopefully you'll stick around for the full ride that will be this story, haha!
If you were curious, yes, this is the same as the story over on @xlifexgoesxonx, which was my old account. It is still my story, I still have copywright over the plot and everything, I'm just going back and editing the whole thing, because I wasn't happy with how it was written.
So anyways, hope you enjoy! ♥
OH! And a like and a comment would make my day a lot brighter! ;)
**if you are a previous reader from my old version, please tell me if this is better than the last one and what you think!**
