Once there was a girl who would help her mother carve wood. She carved hearts for everyone she knew and trusted. However, she found a new use for it.

Before she found out a more suitable way to use it, she first visited her friends. As she quietly knocked on the door, she looked at the trash can and saw the hearts she made for them. She retracted her hand and went back to her home. The next day, she visited her boyfriend. She again knocked on the door lightly, only to find the heart she carved for him on the ground, slowly losing its form. She went back home and carved a heart for herself, yet she could not manage to make one just like before. She felt frustrated and held the knife one her hand loosely.

...

She held the knife tightly and slit her thigh. A moment of silence was all it took for her to realize that it was what she needed in the first place. She repeatedly slid the sharp end to her skin until it bled. She couldn't stop, she couldn't resist herself. And so, she comtinued until she fell into deep slumber.

As she woke up, she went to the living room and saw her mom sitting on a chair while holding the heart she made for her when she was younger. She was making some adjustments to it since the child her was not as good in wood carving as she was now. Upon realizing there was another person in the room, her mom smiled and signalled for her daughter to come closer.

"Look, do you remember this? It's the first heart you've made and you gave it to me", her mother spoke gently.

"Yeah...it looked pretty horrible but good thing you remade it.", she responded.

Her eyes suddenly shot up and her voice became cleared. "Dear, it doesn't matter if physically it isn't perfect. I knew you made it wholeheartedly and that's perfect for me. I just made some adjustments to make it even prettier.", her mother explained and shot a few chuckles after.

The daughter's eyes widened and her heart beated faster. Was it really true? Was my worl really pretty? Those words kept on repeating inside her head.

"Come on, dear. Sit down next to me and let's continue on making more hearts for those you believe in. Bring put your knife and put your whole heart into it, even if physically it's not perfect."

Soon after, the daughter and mother carved hearts until it was time to sleep. They continued the following days until it became clear to the daughter that, even if others won't love her for who she is, her mother was always there to remind her that her heart needs no change unless it was for the better.
