The ride in the car was pleasant. We didn't speak much, but Mark made me feel as comfortable as possible. He taught me how the radio worked, and let me fiddly around with the screen before settling on a certain station that caught my interest.
A fancy-sounding song came on. It triggered something deep in my brain that I could not pinpoint. I felt like I knew it, and it brought forth a brief image. A cane? Why a cane? It was black, with some kind of intricate handle. Silver, maybe? For about thirty seconds this music played freely, but once it reached what must have been a chorus, Mark swiftly switched the station, quite aggressively. He grumbled something to himself.
"Do you not like that song?" I asked, chewing on my bottom lip. I considered asking him about the cane, but decided against it, given that it had to have had something to do with the song, and he clearly didn't like that.
"It.. reminds me of an old friend." That was it? That was all he was going to give me?
"Oh.." Though it frustrated me, I chose to leave it alone. Especially since we now pulled into a parking lot. In front of a hair styling place?
Oh right. I was a few steps higher than clean trash on the attractive scale.
Mark turned off the car and brought me inside. He was about to introduce himself, when the lady started freaking out and squealing. This drew the attention of several other girls, who began a simple reaction. Mark told me he was an actor, but he didn't say how famous he was.
I stepped back, not wanting to bring attention to myself. I worried that the girls would be angry at me for merely breathing the man's air.
After he signed several papers, he finally managed to get me a hair stylist almost immediately, probably because of his status. I was professionally pampered in hundreds of different ways. I had first thought it was just a hair salon, but it was an everything salon. People were getting their hair, makeup, nails, etc. done.
Finally, my hair was trimmed to (h/l)-hair length- and properly cared for. Then my nails were cleaned and trimmed, as were the nails and skins of my feet.
It took at least three hours. But the final reveal was invigorating. I actually felt like myself. Whoever the hell that was supposed to be. Even after I had showered before, I had a new level of clean. I couldn't help but laugh.
When Mark walked over after the poor tired lady told him she was done, he faltered. He looked like he was going to cry.
"Hey, are you okay?" I frowned. Did something happen while he was waiting?
"Yeah, yeah.." he stuttered, pressing the balls of his palms into his eye sockets, "I just.. Haven't seen you as yourself in so long, that's all.."
For some reason, that answer didn't sit right with me. It didn't feel like the truth. Should I confront him about it? No.. not in public. If he got upset, it would look bad in front of his fans. I also wasn't in the mood to deal with that kind of thing. I wanted to feel good.
The sun was soon to set, and the sky was now a million different shades of purple, pnk, orange... and the sight felt so close to my heart. Sunsets were my favorite thing. That, I could remember.
A figure bumped my shoulder, and I tore my eyes away from the clouds in the distance, looking back. He was tall, and somehow looked to have a very similar physique to Mark. He was in all black. The man had tossed his head back to sneer at me, then he stopped, dead in his tracks. We locked eyes. Mark was saying something, but whatever it was, it sounded distant. The edges of my vision started melting. I was about to pass out or.. Something. The little bit of his face that I could see looked.. Shocked. The way Mark had been when he first saw me. Did I know him?
Pressure on my arms brought me back to Mark. His eyebrows were furrowed. He was angry. Angry about the stranger, definitely. Maybe we did know each other, and didn't get along.
Yet still, even if Mark obviously disliked those few seconds of pause, the stranger consumed my thoughts the whole ride home.

(This is.. subpar. I'm aware of that. So ,:) sorry.
