Chapter 1 | Under the table

2nd August 2019

09:35 a.m.

"Are you serious right now?" I nudge Lisa from under the table after noticing she was eating candy during Mister Jeon's lecture. Do I need to mention she eating my candy? Yes! The one Yiren gave me yesterday. I was saving it for a study hour but this pathetic--

"I'm hungry, sweetheart. And the candies are quite the tempting ones. So, forgive me, I'll get you some more during lunch." Okay, that's fair. I guess I'll accept that, Only because she offered to get me some more. 

"Lisa? Get me the candy pack here and solve the question." I snort while covering my mouth and give her a wicked side eye. She's doomed. 

She looks at me feeling betrayed, even though it wasn't me who did anything, but it was me who actually tried to warn her that the teacher could catch her. 

She can't be more dumb. The candy pack did make a noticeable noise every few seconds when she dug her thin long fingers into the pack to get the sour candies out. 

"Y- yes Mister Jeon." She mumbles lowly but loud enough for Mister Jeon to hear and nod a few times before waiting for this careless organism to get to the board. 

She walks shyly, rather embarrassed after getting caught for the metaphorical 234th time. Mostly in Mister Jeon's class. He doesn't scold her anymore, but he's having fun from legally stealing all her snacks like this. But in this circumstance, it was my snacks.

She gets to the board after handing the candy pack to Mister Jeon. He playfully smirks after chuckling a little. 

He's charming in whatever he does. 

"I can't say if I get paid enough for working here, but I'm surely receiving tummy full of food from you, Lisa. I'll be serious now though, if I catch you eating again, I'll examine your bag and take the all the other food that I find too. It's convenient since I'm not getting my lunch everyday. Now draw the eye diagram and label them." He says the entire sentence with a smile on his face, probably very happy for having the candy treat. 

"Lisa, If you have labelled all the parts without missing any, I'll give you half of the pack back to you. Good luck"

This is going to be cool. Since I clearly know she always forgets some or the other label. I giggle breathily ensuring no one hears me, and continue referring my text book and memorizing all the diagrams just in case he calls for me. 

It's been 10 minutes and she's almost done but I laugh on the inside after finding out she forgot to label the ciliary bodies and the blind spot. 

She confidently hands over the chalk piece to Mister Jeon, who took it back with a naughty expression on his face. Its very certain that he knew she did not complete it fully. She forgot to label two parts. "You can go back. But your imposition for today will be, drawing the diagram 3 times and memorize all the parts because..."

She sighs dramatically and stares at the candy pack on his table, with hunger and disappointment shown in her eyes. 

"You forgot to label the ciliary bodies and blind spot. You can't keep forgetting things like this, Lisa. You're going to be a doctor, so work more harder. This is not enough." He blandly says the last four words and Lisa walks back to her seat after nodding politely at Mister Jeon.
