it was 9:00 pm when yoongi finally heard the key in the door lock. namjoon came through the doorway, looking for all the world to be dead on his feet.

yoongi examined him with a careful eye from their worn couch. his broad shoulders were slumped and heavy, and the bags under his eyes look especially dark with only the light from their tv illuminating his face. his skin looked saggy, and his full lips seemed to be set in a deep frown. basically, he looked like shit. hanging his keys up in their place beside yoongi’s, he toed dazedly out of his shoes and shuffled over to yoongi, white ryan socks dragging across their hardwood.

yoongi didn’t know exactly what was bothering him; maybe it was a shitty customer, or his manager yelled at him. maybe his classes were uninteresting or the girl that kept asking him for his number despite his insistence that he was gay asked again. yoongi -at that moment- didn’t care what upset him.

he did care, however, that he was upset, and obviously exhausted. yoongi opened his arms, a silent invitation for namjoon. he took him up on it gratefully, despite the fact that he was still in his work clothes and smelling of city and sweat and slight smoke.

namjoon curled up small and tight in yoongi’s lap, resting his forehead on the side of yoongi’s neck and huffing uneven breaths into his collarbone. yoongi realized how close namjoon was to full-blown panicking, and tried to calm him down through their most effective way- touch.

yoongi reached for namjoon’s tucked-in shirt, quickly untucking it so he could rub a soothing hand up and down his bare back. there was nothing sexual about the gesture; yoongi just knew that namjoon preferred skin-to-skin contact when he got like this, knew that it grounded him.

his other hand went like a magnet to namjoon’s soft brown hair, petting through it and scratching lightly at his scalp. he could feel namjoon begin to go boneless in his arms, the stress and panic from today fizzling out with every touch of yoongi’s hands.

he and yoongi were alike in that regard; once they got their hands on their head and began scratching, they were a goner.

namjoon’s breathing began to even out, the arms that were wrapped tightly around yoongi’s middle loosening their grip.

“do you wanna talk about it joon-ah?”

yoongi’s voice was nothing more than a whisper, not wanting to disturb the atmosphere they’d created. when yoongi didn’t receive an answer, he glanced down at namjoon’s face.

his eyes were closed, his breathing deep and even; he was asleep. his mouth was parted and the frown lines that surrounded it smoothed out.

yoongi slowly took his arm out from under namjoon’s shirt, muting the already quiet television. he would turn it off, but in all honesty, yoongi slept better with something else up with him.

in his sleep, namjoon let out a little grunt, almost as if he was urging yoongi to keep petting his back. yoongi complied, returning to touching his back gently, intimately. he glanced at the clock on their wall; 10 pm.

they both had to get up early tomorrow; namjoon had a morning class and a project to work on afterwards, and yoongi had to get into the studio at 7 am to clean up the backing vocals for his songs.

yoongi wouldn’t move from that spot even if his life was threatened at the risk of waking up namjoon. he was a deep sleeper, but even so yoongi didn’t want to take his chances.

deciding he was going to sleep here with him (it wasn’t a difficult decision), he cuddled closer around namjoon, resting his cheek on the top of his head.

love filled him as he watched namjoon’s peaceful face. no matter what happened to namjoon or how much of a shitty day he had, yoongi would always be there for him to lean on, and he knew namjoon would do the same.

yoongi fell asleep to the sound of namjoon’s quiet snores (yoongi knew they wouldn’t be quiet for long), his hand heavy on the small of namjoon’s back, safe and comforting for the both of them.
