Dust swirled around me as buildings crumbled. The City's people fled as the smoke in the dark skys drifted away. Children cried, husbands hollered for their wives. Chaos erupted. A tank made it's way down Rush-an Blvd. It's rocket launcher turned to face the running people. Anger surged through me. Why did they think they could just come to Russia and ruin us? Brake us? I stepped toward the tank, my eyebrows furrowed and eyes narrowed. I would rather die than run.
The tank surged forward until it was only 10 feet away. It's rocket launcher turned to me, and I could almost heat it's gears churning and the men loading a missile. My lips pulled to a frown. "Your crazy!" On man shouted, before running on. I didn't even look at him. "Do it. I dare you." I muttered under my breath, dropping my bag on the ground. My coat swirled around my legs.
The hatch at the top of the tank opened. A head popped out. It was wearing an American army uniform. Could it be? The shoulder was well defined. Large muscles, a jaw line. His brown hair was pushed back with a bandana and his blue eyes sparkled, standing out against the dirt and smoke. "Liam!" I cried, my accent pronouncing it a bit wrong. I raced forward and leaped up the tank, careful to not slip in my high heels. Liam wrapped his arms around me, as I did the same. I buried my head in the crook of his neck and took in his scent. It was pine and oil. He moved his head to smell my blonde hair, which probably looked horrid at the moment. I turned my head and planted kisses all over his face. He chuckled.
"I thought you weren't coming back!" I whispered. Liam smoothed my hair down and kissed it. "I promised I would. And here I am." He pulled away from our embrace and kissed me. His lips were soft and tasted of mint. How he kept them in that condition in the army, that was beyond me. "I love you." I mumbled into his lips. "I love you too." He mumbled back.
We pulled away. Liam looked at me with his crystal blue eyes. "Will you come with me. Back to America?" He asked. I looked at him. I had nothing here. My family had been killed by Germans, my house was blew up and the city was reduced to rubble. "Yes!" I cried. Liam grinned and lifted me up by the waist like I weighed nothing. He put me down inside the tank and closed the hatch. Other men were in the tank, grinning. "We ain't seen nothing that sweet since we left 'murica" One guy crowed. I blushed. Liam took his post at the looking hatch and called out directions. Another guy with sandy blonde hair steered.
My heart was beating fast. Liam did come back. For me. Even though most people would have thought it was disgusting we loved each other, a Russian and an American, we still did it. We made it work.
