I wanted to publish this short story as it started as one of my assignments for a university class this term, comparing the wartime experience of a German naval officer to that of a young Jewish woman in Occupied Paris.

There has been a disturbing rise in anti-Semitic violence in both North America and Europe as well as absolutely fabricated and false internet conspiracy theories that deny the Holocaust ever happened. Therefore, I hope this story might educate the next generation of readers about the nature of the Holocaust. For that reason, I am trying my best to be as historically accurate as possible but please let me know if you notice anything that could be improved! I am also going to capture the documented aspects of hope, love and compassion that allowed survivors to develop resilience in the face of an unparalleled force of evil—without romanticizing anything.

Subsequently, I hope this story will encourage us all to choose compassion and empathy over hatred, so that something like the Holocaust will never happen again.

Given the content matter, please do note that there will be disturbing descriptions.
