"This power from the village..." I say, trailing off.
"What about it?!" Agunimon asks anxiously.
"Gaius teamed up with someone!" I say, looking at Nicolas.
Nicolas has wide eyes, staring back at me.
"Why is it everywhere I go, danger follows?" I ask myself.
I jump over the wall surrounding the village, and sprint to the smoke rising. Sure, it was the flame village, but that smoke wasn't of regular flame village smoke. I reached the scene of the crime and explosion to find Gaius.
"Hey idiot!" I yell.
Gaius spun around to see me. He was in his MetalGreymon evolution. Agunimon jumps over the wall to join me. I point at Gaius.
"That's Gaius. When you attack, watch in case he strikes back. DON'T try to defend. You're not able to absorb as many hits as I can from him. Plus, he's as powerful as you, which you may not come by everyday." I inform Agunimon.
"Affirmative." Agunimon says angrily.
Suddenly, a crash in a building by Gaius startles me.
"Who's that?" I ask.
Reluctantly, I jump down to Gaius' level.
"I see you've returned." Gaius says in a dark voice.
"Yes. I see you've attacked this village." I say, pulling out my digisoul.
I slam it into my digivice and start to grow. This time, I wasn't going to go overboard with power. I turned into RizeGreymon. I spun the cylinder of my gun.
"Prepare to fight Gaius!" I yell.
"No. Not today. Today, you fight my partner." He says.
"Your partn-" I'm cut off by a large Digimon charging it's shoulder into my chest.
I collapsed to the ground and hold my chest to check if any of my ribs were broken.
"Ooph!" I grunt, my wind knocked out of my chest.
I start to get up off my stomach, when I'm kicked by the same Digimon.
"Agunimon! Get him off me!" I yell.
Agunimon jumps down, and punches it across the face, flames covering his fist.
"Thanks!" I say, jumping up.
I finally see who the Digimon is. Merukimon.
"Merukimon?!" I ask, "Why is a Digimon like you fighting AGAINST defensive Digimon and not the one trying to kill them?!"
Merukimon stood in silence. I look into his eyes to see his emotionless response when I notice his eyes are black. I realized that he's being controlled. Not by the evil that consumes Gaius, but by a device. I notice something that wasn't part of his creation model. A small black crystal on his chest, with tubes stuck in it and going into Merukimon.
"Look. Right there Agunimon." I say, pointing at the device.
"I see it. A high class control parasite created by the legion. They made it to use powerful leaders for their liking." Agunimon said, "Which is why it's in Merukimon, who was designed after the mythological Mercury."
"Okay. How do we take it out without harming him?" I ask.
"We can take it out, but we will harm Merukimon. No other way. It's not permanently, but it will hurt him pretty bad." Agunimon says.
"Okay. Let's do this." I say.
"Right!" A Susanoomon says.
"Hey Nicolas. Let's go." I say to him.
He raises his sword, and Agunimon starts fire on his hands. I let the plasma in my tertiary lung start to rise. Gaius turns, and leaves. I watch him, angered by the evils cower. Merukimon roars, and we all rush him.
"Flaming Darts!" Agunimon yells, throwing flames at Merukimon's control node.
Nicolas said nothing and bolted behind Merukimon.
"Giant Revolver!" I shout, targeting the node as well.
I launch myself into the air, and see an opening on Merukimon. He has no ability to protect his upper back. If I can manage to get either Nicolas or Agunimon on him, I could directly grab the node, pull on it, reveling the tubes on it, and let Nicolas or Agunimon cut them.
"Nicolas!" I yell down to him.
"Yeah?!" He yells back up.
"Jump! You'll see everything else resolve!" I say.
He hesitates to think about it. Then he nods. I lower to Merukimon's height and shoot him.
"Raaah!" He yells, then grabs my wings and headbutts me.
I fall onto the ground, still having aftershocks of the brutal hit. I jump back up hesitantly, feeling like I should've just stayed on the ground. I fly back into the air. Nicolas sees the perfect time and jumps into the air. I grab him and drop him onto the back of Merukimon, who was trying to smash Agunimon with his fist.
"Keep it up Agunimon! We've almost got it!" I say to him.
"Roger!" He responds.
Nicolas ran up to Merukimon's ear, and punched him in the head as hard as possible. Merukimon cringed a bit. That hit even made me shudder. I hovered right in front of Merukimon, and grabbed into the node with my right(only) hand, and pulled.
"NICOLAS! NOW!" I yell, the tubes emerging.
Nicolas leaps into the air, sword above his head. Everything seems to go quiet and move in slow motion. Nicolas falls, and slices the tubes. I rip it away from Merukimon, who was roaring in pain. I realize that my face is angered. I wasn't, but that seems to just be how my model was created, just as all the others were created to look brave and blunt. I throw the node onto the ground, and obliterate it with a shot, and a stomp. Merukimon is lying on the ground, rolling in pain. After awhile, he stops, and is knocked out from pain.
"Where does it hurt him most?" I ask Agunimon, who approaches me.
"The head, because-"
"Because the tubes dug through his body and into his mind." I say, finishing Agunimon's sentence, looking down.
"Correct." He says.
I hear the sound of pattering feet, and look over to it's direction. It becomes louder, and I change to my rookie form. A human boy turns the corner.
"Ah. What's this?" Agunimon says, surprised by the child.
The boy approaches Merukimon reluctantly.
"Is...Is it safe to be around him?" He asks.
"Yes." I say.
The boy walks towards Merukimon, and to my surprise, drops to his knees crying.
"I thought I lost you!" The boy says, rubbing the head of the knocked out Merukimon.
I watched, marveled by the care the boy possessed.
"Did you make him good again?" He asks me.
"Yes." I say.
"Why did you make him bad then?" He asks me.
"I didn't do this. That must've been my friend Gaius. He looks like me, but he's evil." I inform him.
"Then why are you friends with him?"
"It's...It's complicated." I stutter.
"Okay..." The kid says.
He was a curious one, but still timid and docile.
"Do you have a group or place to go?" I ask him.
"*sob* No...they left. We were separated." The boy says, crying softly.
"Well...would you mind if you came along with us?" I ask him, kneeling in front of him to even to his height.
"No. I would like to come along." He says, wiping his eyes and lightening up a bit.
"Well great!" I say, smiling.
I look to the others.
"Do you mind If he comes along?" I ask.
"Nope." Nicolas says.
"I don't mind." Agunimon says.
"Welcome to the group my little friend." I say, still smiling.
"Is Merukimon going to be okay?" He asks me.
"Yeah. He was being controlled by my friend, who was using his power for nothing but destruction." I say to him.
"Oh...okay. That's why you attacked him, right?" The boy says.
"Yeah. We didn't want a Digimon of that power getting into the wrong hands." I say.
"So...what's all your names?" He asks us all.
"I'm Agunimon, the legendary warrior of fire." Agunimon says.
"I'm Kaden Long. My species of Digimon don't have a name yet." I say to him.
"And I'm Nicolas. Leader of the Bio hybrids." Nicolas says quickly.
"Well... It's nice to meet all of you!" The boy says.
"So. What's your name?" I ask.
"It's Alex. I'm ten!" He says.
"It's a pleasure Alex!" Agunimon says, bowing.
I look around and see Nicolas approach Merukimon's head, and do something.
"Hey Nicolas! What are you doin?" I call to him.
"He's waking up! I'm going to make sure he stays up!" Nicolas says.
'Good. We didn't kill the poor thing.' I think.
Merukimon groans, and sits up.
"Oh goodness gracious. What happened?" He asks.
"We tore off a brain control node that was attached to you." Nicolas says bluntly.
"Oh. Okay. What are you puny Digimon and humans doing near my friend?" He asks protectively.
"All I can say is welcome to the group Merukimon." Agunimon says.
"Oh! Agunimon! Hello old friend!" Merukimon says, hugging Agunimon.
"Ah!" Agunimon grunts, the powerful hug from Merukimon hurting him badly.
"Wow. At least he didn't glomp you!" I say.
"What?" Merukimon asks.
"Nothing!" I laugh.
"Oh yeah. Also, must thank my saviors." Merukimon says, hugging me and Nicolas.
"AhHaaha- AHHHH!" I scream in pain, my back popping horribly.
He drops me, and I lie on the ground.
"That...almost hurt as bad as your shoulder charge." I say, standing up slowly, holding my chest.
"Thank you." Merukimon says.
"Yeah. A simple thanks would've worked man!" I say.
Everyone laughs. I suddenly yawn.
"Wow. I'm really tired!" I say.
"Me too." Nicolas says.
"Let's set up camp here. But first, let's help the Digimon conflicted by this attack." Agunimon says.
We walked around town, repairing the homes of all the small Digimon. Some were one step ahead of us. They had helped us, and had already repaired their own homes. After an hour of picking up debris and checking if everyone was alright, they lied down to sleep. I, however, sat and looked off into the distance, watching the night sky. I was thinking about everything that's happened. A sudden crunch of dirt underneath a shoe catches my attention.
"Hey Kaden." Agunimon said, walking up and sitting next to me.
"Hey." I reply, looking off still.
"How're you doing?" He asked.
"Been better. I'm not really sure what to think." I say, "My life has changed so much. At the start my changes were something I felt I needed to remove, but now...when I'm like this, it feels like this is what I was meant to be, and when I'm human, it's a dream."
"I understand your struggle. I know you've been through a lot my friend. It must be difficult to keep your mind set." Agunimon says.
"Yeah. Arrivederci my old life." I say, looking deeper into the darkness.
Agunimon sat in silence next to me.
"Funny. I used to love the dark. I used to love the creatures that inhabited it, and marveled by the ones who used it for their advantage...but now, all I think about it is, 'What awaits me inside that will try to kill me?'" I say to him.
"Kaden...all. I can tell you is to have faith in destiny." Agunimon tells me.
"I'll try. It's just, how can I have faith in destiny when it's changed every five minutes and everything try's to kill me?" I ask, turning towards him.
"That's for you to learn." He says.
"Okay...goodnight Agunimon." I say to him.
"Goodnight Kaden." He says, walking away.
I didn't sleep that night. All I could do was think of more ways to be less paranoid. However, none of the tactics worked. They all just increased my paranoia levels. I hear a small sound. It was Alis.
"*yawn* Hey Kaden. Why weren't you able to sleep last night?" Alis asks.
"Paranoia..." I say.
"Okay." Alis says back quietly.
"Hey. Alis. When you were in training, or also known as being a child, did you go to school?" I ask her.
"Yes. I did. Why?" She asked.
"When you went to school...were there ever outcasts? By that I mean Digimon that were a bit distant from everyone else." I ask her.
"...Yes...I was one. Little did anyone know that I would become one of the greatest heroes of all time." She said.
"I want the humans that were mean to me and still are, to see me do something huge that will let them know I'm not as low as they think. I want to do this to show that even if someone's different, they can still save everyone." I say to her.
"I understand. I'll assist you every step of the way." Alis replies.
"Thanks." I say, standing up.
I turn and look over the village to see the sun rising perfectly to shine through a large symbol overlooking the village. It was no wonder this was the flame village. Not just because the first Agunimon showed up here, but because it rests under a symbol of fire, and it brought a warm feeling across the whole village.
"Soon...I can upgrade your data Alis. If you'd like for me to." I say to her, being influenced by the beauty of the fire symbol.
"I would like that...but what would you upgrade?" Alis asks.
"Your abilities. Also, I would try to make it possible for others to see you, if you want that." I say to her.
"Thank you." She says.
"Your welcome." I say back to her.
We suddenly see Alex playing on the floor below us. Alis and I were positioned on an upper level of the village, which overlooked the whole village. This was practically a watch tower. I decided to sleep up there so my mind could be cleared. I sat back down on the wooden floor. I started to think of outcomes, tried to think ahead, or tried to not think. The same story was happening. Sad for my friend, scared of what's happening to others, and scarred by my family history. However, this time, no anger or sadness possessed any of these thoughts. It was more of a pride feeling, as if I was working it out. I felt something hit me in the chest, but loving and caring. I open my eyes, and look down. The symbol of fire was imprinted on my chest. It sat there, but slowly moved to my left, until it was directly on my heart.
"What is this?" I ask, "My heart? What about it?"
No voice came, but I saw the symbol somehow move as if it was conjured by an ancient magic. The symbol stops atop a building with flames around it. I stand and jump down to the lower floor, and sprint to the building. I approach the door of the building. I knock, and here movement inside.
"H-Hello?" An old voice says.
"This is Kaden Long! I'm also known as the counterpart!" I call, trying to make my voice be heard through the door.
".....Come in. Quickly." The voice says, having an accent to it along with it's rushing.
I open the door, and walk in, closing the door quickly behind me. I walk into what seemed to be the main room to see a Candlemon.
"Hello. Is this the Digimon that called me in here?" I ask him.
"Yes. It is." Candlemon says, approaching me.
"Did you control that symbol?" I ask him.
"Yes...Oh my. You've grown a lot my boy. Last time I saw you...you were just in training." Candlemon says.
I back up from Candlemon, shocked at what he said.
"What are you talking about?" I ask, suspiciously.
"You will know soon enough my boy. I've called you here to have a conversation with you." Candlemon says.
"Why are you calling me your boy?" I ask, backing up five steps.
"Sorry. Please forgive me. I must tell you of a certain occurrence that will answer your questions." Candlemon says.
I scan the room. I see a plaque that has some slightly odd Digimon runes. Looks as if a child wrote it.
"What happened?" I ask, still trying to read the plaque.
"An object was found in the flame village that tells something about you..." He says to me.
"What?! Nobody here knows me though!" I say, shocked at this.
"That's what you think. You really don't remember anything." Candlemon says, astonished.
"Remember what?! I'm just a boy who was turned into a Digimon, and now I'm trying to end a war that I caused! What else is there to it?!" I ask.
"I, the elder, will tell you soon." Candlemon says.
"No! I must know now! I can't live with these questions inside of me!" I shout.
"Fine. Fine." Candlemon says defensively, "You have a history here. One you have supposedly forgot. History about your family, and your founding."
"WHAT?!" I ask loudly, shocked horribly by this.
"You're...You're more than you think." Candlemon says.
"Stop dancing around the answer! Tell me what it is!" I demand, "Am I an experiment gone wrong?!"
"Your...your. A Digimon." Candlemon says.
"I know that!" I shout impatiently.
"You were from the start. You may have misread the prophecy. The counterpart was thought to be human. I raised you. You were different from the others because of your color, and when you were a Koromon like Digimon, your data was altered by a group of scientists to see if it was possible to change a Digimon to human. They were successful, and you became the human known as Kaden Long." Candlemon said.
"No...no no no! Your lying!" I yell at him.
"If I were, I would tell you that you've been human from the start." Candlemon said.
I was conflicted by this newfound information. I fell to my knees, confused and frustrated, having found that I've been living a lie, and not knowing if my parents knew of this already. I fall onto all fours, looking at the ground.
"No. That can't be the truth...it can't..." I whimper to myself.
'Why don't I take this as positive info? I always wanted to be a part of Digimon, but for some reason, I'm sorrowful of this.' I think to myself.
"How do I know your telling the truth? Where's your proof?" I ask, more confident.
Candlemon hops over to a closet, and opens it. He grabs an object, and hops back over to me.
"You were the only one to be black and red. No one owned you, because your egg showed up in the flame pits. Digimon brought the egg to me for inspection. Your egg was charred in a pattern such as your head is. Covered in black with a red line running down the middle. No one wanted to care for you because you were thought to be a monster. An abomination. I cared for you, the only one knowing you may be the prophecy. I sent you to a school to learn to adapt to others unlike you. The third day of school, I heard you were being teased and bullied because of how you look, and I pulled you out of school, and taught you myself. I watched you grow into the strong Digimon you are now, until our separation." He says, " You were one born in fire, raised in it. This is an image of your egg and you as a child."
He handed me the photo case. I see an egg that's red and black, and a Koromon that was all my colors. I started to accept it, but not gently. I started to cry in confusion and frustration.
"I understand your sadness. You can't take in the thought of living a lie, which is understandable." Candlemon says, approaching me.
I became more understanding, and decided to ask the question picking at my mind.
"What am I?" I ask, still staring deep into the photo.
"You are what you choose to be. You can choose to be what they call you, or you can choose to be what you think you are. A human, a Digimon, or a beast?" He asks me.
"..." I sat in silence.
"What do you think?" Candlemon asks again.
I didn't know what to think. I'm practically human, because I've lived around them for years. But then again, I could be Digimon, due to the fact I enjoy to lighten up someone's day with encouraging words and actions. Or... Am I... A beast? I go on rampages all the time, killing anything, regardless if what type of threat they pose. I'm see things on the bright side, and I'm civil, unlike a beast.... I take in a deep breath, releasing and feeling the heat in my chest escape my mouth.
"........I'm a Digimon." I say, making the final decision.
"Then it is decided." He says.
"One thing I don't understand though...Gotsumon injected me with that serum, causing me to change into this." I say.
"He didn't have thoughts of changing you. That injection fills humans or Digimon with pure evil." Candlemon says.
"Also, why did my human friend become a Digimon just like me?" I ask.
"That evil was originally in you, yes?" He asks.
"Yes." I say.
"Then the evil inhabited you first, which means you were the only one able for it to inhabit. It can survive only in the structure and body of the first it was in, which may have caused the transformation of your friend." Candlemon says.
"One more thing. Why could I control myself when Gaius couldn't?" I ask.
"The minds of Digimon are not easily controlled by evil influences." Candlemon said.
"Okay, thanks." I say.
I hand the photo back to Candlemon. Suddenly, a crash and a shout occured.
"What was that?!" I ask, turning around, and watching the door.
"Go check it out!" Candlemon says.
I run out and through the door to see an entire army of Digimon outside the front door of the elders building.
"Who are you all?" I ask angrily.
"We are the resistance against the rule of Gotsumon. We're seeking the one known as Kaden Long." A Digimon at the front says.
"What for?" I ask quickly.
"We need his assistance for an enemy raid attacking the village at the moment." The Digimon says.
"An attack?! From who?!" I ask evermore impatiently.
"Gotsumon!" The Digimon says.
"Then I'm your guy. Let's go." I say, running past them.
They all stood still, surprised by the sudden movement, and start to follow. I run in the direction which I see small Digimon evading. I reach the west area of the village to see Gotsumon himself attacking with a huge amount of Digimon.
"Fire!" Gotsumon yells.
A large boulder launches into the air and obliterates a group of buildings. I feel a burning rage inside of me. He attacks my home village. It feels as if a long lost friend has just been re-united with me. A far cry of memory calls for me, ringing in my ears. I see an image of a sad and lost Digimon. Lost in a forest, crying to itself, not knowing what to do. This was a memory...of me. My memories have started to return, due to the information told to me. I never knew why Digimon meant so much to me, but I now know why. I always did like Agumon and Candlemon, but didn't have much of a reason except that they looked cool. I approach the breach in the wall of the village, where the whole fleet was about to invade. I step inside the breach, and look angrily at Gotsumon.
"It's him! Restrain him!" Gotsumon yells.
The whole fleet charges me. I use the burning rage for my advantage. I roar as loud as possible, and digivolve into VictoryGreymon. Music started to play in my ears. 'Who We Are'. I swing my sword downwards, and watch as Nicolas and Agunimon run up to my side to assist me.
"Bring it on." I say quietly to myself.
I lift my blade, and make a destructive swing. To Be Continued...
