"she said don't, don't let it got to your head! boys like you are a dime a dozen! but these grass stains on my knees won't mean a thing." i hear his voice loud and clear as soon as i walk into the karaoke bar.
he's never sounded this bad, at karaoke. "what's he doing?" i ask the bartender.
"the boy's been up there for the past hour. singing sappy breakup songs. he's boring my clientele." tom sighs and continues to pick up empty bottles to trash. "he ain't let anyone take a turn, plus they've been throwing drinks at him. and he's there opening his mouth like an idiot." i nod my head, take the shot he has prepared and let ashton finish his song.
he went from taylor swift to three days grace. i figured i'd let him get this anger out of his system before i beat the shit out of him. "fuck you man! i bet your lady friend has a bigger dick tha-"
"hey, hey, hey there pal." i climb on stage and take him down before someone else does.
"luke you're here. this is my best friend luke hemmings he's going to sign with me." ashton slurs as i drag him away. i shake my head as i regret not going to the gym with him more often. he's fucking heavy.
i spot his car, dig for the keys in his pocket. he doesn't say much. I didn't expect him to, if he's getting wasted because who came back home he knows i don't want to hear about it. then again all he sang was breakup songs. maybe chloe was the reason.
i drive far from our houses, thirty minutes out of boulder where there's a lake and bridge. kinda one of the most beautiful things we have to enjoy.
"you going to talk to me about?" i question after putting his car in park. he opens the door trying to run out forgetting he has his seatbelt on he puked all over his shirt.
"i'll take that as a no." he looks up at me slouching and wipes the remaining vomit from his lips with the back of his hand.
"i wish i was an evil person luke." he gives in and remembers the seat belt.
i step out following every move he makes as he gets closer to the water. it's still, untouched, clear, and alone. it reminds me of her lately.
"do you ever feel like, like you're never going to live up to the expectations of making somebody happy?" he asks removing his short and jumps into the shallow water.
"this idiot." i remove all of my clothes then turn to see if anyone is around. it's 2:35 luke, who in their right mind would be here of all places? with my blue boxer briefs i jump in.
"this is fucking cold." my head comes up. my eyes burn but i can see ashton floating on his back. he seems so sad, defeated. "all the time." i swim over to him.
"what?" he asks with a much sober tone.
"all the time. i feel as though i won't live up to my first impression, the first time i made her smile, laugh. when i made her happy."
now all i do is make her cry. she says it's not because of me, but i know she lies.
"she says live up to your first impressions, well my best side was your worst invention."
"ashton," i say in a calm manner making him laugh, "now is not the time to quote song lyrics."
he begins to sway his arms moving away from me. "we're too young to be wasting our lives, to be crying over these petty things." he replies.
