The sky turned merigold as San led Wooyoung out the back door of that impossibly large house.
"Sannie where're we going?" Wooyoung giggled as San squeezed his hand and looked back with a bright smile.
"You'll see."
Wooyoung simply rolled his eyes and let San lead him through the huge garden until they reached a huge hedge.
"A maze? Really?" Wooyoung looked up at the green wall before him, eyebrow raised as he turned to face the adorable vampire once more.
"Yes, now stop questioning everything and trust me." San scoffed and lead Wooyoung into the maze happily. The shadows cast by the sun over the hedges caused Wooyoung's eyes to strain and his grip on San's hand to grow tighter. But thankfully San seemed very sure of where he was going.
Eventually they reached the centre, both walking in comfortable silence the majority of the trip.
It was a huge gap, with absolutely no gardening done. In the centre of this circle resided a huge oak tree, even bigger than when Wooyoung was there last.
"You always said you hoped the gardener never got here, so I made sure he didn't. This is still our place." San immediately pulled Wooyoung to the oak tree, sitting down on the grass happily. The sun set was only barely visible over the walls of the maze around them.
A small yelp left Wooyoung's lips as San pushed him onto the grass, straddling his waist.
"H-how the tables have turned." Wooyoung chuckled, absolutely not expecting this scenario to play out... ever... and not like this...
"Can I kiss you?" San asked, face inches from Wooyoung's. Both of his hands cupped Wooyoung's cheeks, and Wooyoung's arms were wrapped around San's perfect waist.
"Where? Cheeks, forehead, nose?" Wooyoung tried to hold back his smile as San's eyes narrowed at him. "Perhaps you want-" "What I want is your lips!"
Wooyoung blinked a few times.
"Ok... yes... kiss me... on my lips..." Wooyoung felt his face warming up before San had even begun to lean in further.
And San did just that.
The instant San's lips pressed to Wooyoung's it was like his whole existence was focussed into this single moment. Warmth flared over his entire being, and he swore he could see stars.
San pulled away, simply pressing his forehead to Wooyoung's for a moment.
"I've waited so long to do that." San then finally opened his eyes, staring at Wooyoung. "Will you be my boyfriend?"
"Yes, definitely. On one condition." Worry filled San's vibrant red eyes. "You have to meet my mum."
"S-seriously?" If anything San only grew more concerned. But Wooyoung just pulled him into another short kiss.
"Trust me?"
Light pink spilled over San's cheeks.
"Always."
Wooyoung's house was only one short car trip away. The whole time San's leg bounced, and his eyes seemed slightly wide with worry.
"Hey, it's ok. Promise, my mum's actually awesome." Wooyoung immediately reached out to stop San's knee from moving, smiling reassuringly.
Yet even as they reached the door San's nerves didn't seem to be quelled at all. If anything.. they'd grown.
"I'm home! And I've bought someone for you to meet!" Wooyoung yelled as he swung the door open. He heard the electric mixer running in the kitchen, immediately engaging his survival instincts. "Step away from the cooking you absolute cretin."
His mother raised her hands and moved away from the mixer, looking shocked. "I thought you'd be out later..."
"So you thought you'd make chemical weapons while I was gone?" Wooyoung washed his hands and grabbed a spoon, trying the cake batter. "Jesus Christ what even is this?"
"...food..." His mother was, often, awful at cooking. That's why Wooyoung made most of the food, and she helped with minor things. Hence why he trusted her to finish cupcakes occasionally.
But cooking on her own was... not good... to say the least.
"Is it really? Do we need a repeat of the incident?" Wooyoung set to work fixing his mother's abomination.
"Look I only gave myself food poisoning... a few times. And that isn't even that bad!" She moped, propping up her cheek with her arm. "Who's this guest anyway?"
"Choi San."
Immediately Mrs.Jung shot up and spun to see San in the doorway, having silently watched their interaction.
Wooyoung didn't even have time to warn San before his mother launched at him. She grabbed his cheeks, squeezing them and beaming. "He's so cute! Little vampire! Come sit down, would you like a drink?"
"I-I'm good." San cautiously sat down at the counter, scanning over his surroundings.
"It's ok kiddo, I won't hurt you." Wooyoung's mother sat beside San, giving a reassuring smile.
"But she will send you to hospital with food poisoning."
"Again, that only happened a few times you absolute brat. But anyway tell me about yourself San." Mrs.Jung smiled at San.
Whereas Wooyoung's favourite little vampire looked like he was about to combust with worry.
He kept glancing between Wooyoung and his mother, looking very much like a fish out of water. Heat rose to his cheeks. Anxiety was clear in his eyes.
So Wooyoung reached out and held his hand.
"I-I'm not sure what to say... I like reading? And sometimes I like to go on business trips to see other noble families and stuff." San latched onto Wooyoung's hand, almost crushing it by accident.
"San's also very good with vampire magic, aren't you?" Wooyoung tried to help as best he can. Partly for San's sake and partly to save his hand from complete destruction.
"Yeah, I guess. I'm good at life magic which is surprising for vampires. And dark magic too. Just... magic." San held up his free hand and focussed for a moment.
A few flowers formed in the palm of his hand, curling around his fingers before they withered and died.
Wooyoung's mother was clearly in awe.
"Oh wow! That's so cool! Wooyoung, you got yourself a real keeper here." Mrs.Jung smirked at her son. Yet rather than getting all defensive and embarrassed, Wooyoung simply looked at San.
He watched as San's mystifying eyes, now a rust red, stared at him with more... sparkly-ness than Wooyoung had ever seen before. How his cotton candy lips formed into an easy smile. How his entire being glowed with some sort of indescribable ethereal beauty that Wooyoung could barely comprehend.
And he watched as San's eyes filled with that same sort of adoration as they focussed on him.
"Yes, I really do."
