It wasn't until she was sitting in the guy's car and putting her address into his GPS that Vee realised she didn't even know the name of the person sitting next to her.

"Who are you by the way?" She asked putting the GPS back into its holder.

The boy reached out and adjusted it slightly, which caused Vee to roll her eyes, before he answered her.

"My name's Luke. Luke Hemmings. I'm pretty sure we go to school together." He glanced her way briefly before starting up his car and pulling out onto the road. "You're Victoria, right? I think you're in my world history class."

"Don't call me Victoria - it's Vee." She corrected him, cringing at the use of her full name. "You sit up the back right?"

Luckily she was paying attention or she wouldn't have noticed Luke nod in answer to her question. Even though she was vaguely aware that Luke went to the same school as her and they even had a class together she barely remembered him. She kind of assumed that they'd never spoken to one another before otherwise she'd probably have some recollection of the boy; but seeing as she didn't, she couldn't figure out why he'd been willing to leave the party just to give her a lift home.

It was quiet for a while, neither of them speaking to one another and the radio cutting in and out every now and then playing tiny snippets of songs and then nothing but static. It wasn't a comfortable sort of quiet either, not like the ones where you know the person well enough to just sit there silently. Vee just felt awkward and she had assumed Luke must have been too until he started talking, because then it became clear he'd just been busy with his thoughts.

"What did you mean back there when you said you were asexual?" Vee almost had to ask him to repeat himself because she hadn't really been expecting him to talk and she'd sort of zoned out altogether.

"You heard that?" Luke nodded and she just shrugged her shoulders. "I pretty much meant that I'm asexual. I thought that was fairly obvious."

She thought she saw Luke roll his eyes but there wasn't enough light in the car for her to be sure. "I got that. I just - what does that even mean?"

"What, asexual?"

"Yeah." Luke nodded, his eyes still fixed on the road.

Vee let out a sigh. She hadn't really told anyone about her sexuality and now she'd just told some guy who was pretty much a stranger.

She really hated parties.

"It means that I don't want to have sex with you; or anyone for that matter." She paused for a moment, wondering if Luke would even be able to understand that, in her experience people generally were a bit confused by the whole idea of being asexual despite it actually quite a simple concept.

"So you're a virgin then?" Luke asked nonchalantly, as if this was a conversation they'd had many times.

Vee scoffed and rolled her eyes before crossing her arms over her chest. "Of course that's the first thing you'd ask."

When she looked over to him Luke actually looked a little bit embarrassed. "Sorry, it just slipped out." He apologised, turning to look at her quickly before once again focusing on driving.

"I've heard that before." Vee muttered to herself. She mustn't have been as quiet as she thought though because moments later Luke's loud laugh filled the small car.

"So how does that work?" He asked once he'd settled down. "Like, do you not find anyone attractive? Do you get hórny? Ooh, do you másturbate?"

"Dude, don't you think that's a bit of a personal question to be asking someone you virtually just met?" It took a lot to shock Vee but she had well and truly been caught off guard by his questions.
