Drake walked through the near empty market. It was a bit unnerving walking through without the sound of music and chatter. Even the song birds stopped singing from the pet shops. Most of the shops were closed and soldiers walked around with their swords out.
His heavy cloak dragged behind him. He pulled up the hood, feeling uncomfortable and anxious that someone might recognize him.
Erasmus was not going to handle it well when he found out what Drake wanted. He mentally winced at the idea. The idea of having a powerful prince finding out he was in love with his human bride.
Not that he asked Matty for that. The prince didn't ask Matty for anything. Royalty had this nasty habit of assuming a lot of things especially when it came to humans. But hadn't he done the same? He assumed a lot with humans. With Matty. He felt himself bristle at this thought. He wasn't that bad though.
He spotted the red-eyed, white wolf sitting at the entrance of the metal worker's store. He didn't smell the usual ash or fire as he pushed back the cloth covering the doorway.
"Who's there?" The dwarf's gruff voice echoed from down in his basement. The wolf growled at him and Drake straightened up. He pushed opened the door and it slammed into the ground with a loud BANG. Drake stilled himself as the dwarf popped his head up.
"Hello." Drake said.
"You. What do you want?"
"I was hoping you could make me a charm. Something for-"
The dwarf made a rude noise. "Let me guess. It's for that human girl."
"Yes-"
"What inane blood spell do you want me to put on it?" He asked.
"I don't." Drake said. "I just want a simple charm for her."
"A simple charm?" The dwarf barked. "Why come to me then?"
"Your artistry puts others to shame and I would be trying to announce myself as-"
He threw his twisted, knobby hands in the air. "Thank the gods, you finally decided to see reason and tell the stupid human girl your feelings?" Drake rolled his eyes. Had everyone known? "About time, but I don't know if I have the time for that. You know things are getting bad around here."
"When has that stopped you?"
The dwarf huffed. "That prince is gunning for yer girl. I would be careful if I were you. He wants to make sure the rest of the worlds know it. He wants everything to be perfect. A lot of us faeries don't fit into that."
"What do you mean by that?" Drake said. He didn't like the sound of it. Matty wouldn't want a bunch of faeries to be moved out of their homes just because the bratty prince was throwing a fit.
"He's clearing a way for his court, you know how it goes with these types. Has to show how much girth his penis has as the saying goes." The dwarf said. "I don't think Mab and I will stay to see what else the foolish prince will do. And what of you? You going to be stayin' with the Lunae Lux Court?"
"Of course," Drake said.
The dwarf huffed. "You think yer queen will like you being loyal to someone else?"
Drake felt his stomach twist at this thought. Niap was new to being queen, but he hadn't been certain her mother would've been as excited especially considering how free spirited Matty was.
"There hasn't been a problem yet."
The dwarf snorted rudely. "Yet."
"I'll pay you. It's important-"
