Camila wakes up the next morning with her mind made up about making the most of these last few days she has with Shawn before he goes back to Yale. He made it very clear that he doesn’t want to lose her, but she also knows they won’t have a choice once he leaves. It might be hard to keep a long distance relationship, but she’s willing to if he is. She believes in their love and it might sound cliche, but she knows they’re supposed to be together no matter how many miles are separating them.Jumping out of bed, Camila changes into a pink polka-dotted bikini, applies sunscreen on her skin and places her heart-shaped sunglasses on her head before walking downstairs. She makes her way to the pool deck while braiding her hair, finding Shawn and his friends already in the water. She decides to skip breakfast with her family again, something she’s been doing a lot recently, and sits on the edge of the pool. She waits for Shawn to notice her, and once he does, he smiles at her before swimming to where she is.
“ You’re up early.” She says when he stops in front of her, bending down to kiss his lips.
“ I thought I might enjoy more of my time here out of bed since we’re leaving soon.” He wraps his hands around her ankles under the water and rests his chin on her knees, looking up at her with a playful expression in his eyes. She laughs, knowing exactly what he’s about to do before he skillfully pulls her into the water. Camila wraps her arms and legs around his body as he dives into the water, kissing her while she tries not to laugh. He brings the both of them back to the surface as they laugh, Camila now drenched as her sunglasses float next to them in the water.
“ You’re crazy.” She says before giving him a kiss that maybe she should keep for when no one is around, especially when his friends start whistling and telling them to get a room from the other side of the pool. He breaks the kiss and she rests her forehead against him, seeing he’s ready to tell his friends off when a voice interrupts him.
“ Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao!” Camila’s eyes go wide when she recognizes her father’s voice, knowing he for sure just witnessed her and Shawn’s display of affection.
Both Shawn and Camila slowly look at where the voice came from, their eyes in shock to see her father fuming and looking like he’s about to murder Shawn. Camila immediately gets off of Shawn and swims to the edge, getting out of the water as Shawn follows her and does the same.
“ Papi, please just…” Camila starts saying as she walks to him, but he interrupts her with anger and betrayal in his eyes.
“ So this is what you’ve been doing everytime you skip breakfast and dinner with your family?” He accuses her, grabbing her arm and shaking her. His tone of voice is loud enough to get the attention of other guests, who are now looking at them with curiosity, some hesitant if maybe they should do something about it.
“ Papi, you’re hurting me.” Camila says right when Shawn steps in and pulls her out of her father’s hold.
“ Sir, we can explain it.” Shawn tries to be as polite as he can, even though he wants to tell her father off now that he can see her arm getting red from his hold.
“ You’re not going to explain me shit!” Her father yells, taking a step forward as Shawn pulls Camila behind him. “ You think you can do that to my daughter without my permission?”
“ With all due respect, sir. Camila is not your possession, she can do whatever she wants.” Camila lets out a smile when she hears Shawn’s words, even though she knows they won’t have a positive effect on her father.
It all happened so fast that neither of them could have done anything. It’s like she’s registering everything in slow motion, watching the exact second her father punches her boyfriend and his friends come running to take the man off him.
“ Shawn?” Camila takes his hand in her face, looking at the damage her father just did as Luke and Liam hold her father.
“ I’m okay.” Shawn tells her, but he seems nothing like it to her. He has a black eye and there’s blood on his nose, so she ignores her father’s screams and guides Shawn to the nearest restroom. She helps him clean the blood as he winces in pain, making her look at him apologetically.
“ I’m so sorry.” She whispers, feeling guilty for what just happened.
“ Hey, it’s not your fault.” He says, holding her hand in his. “ He would have to find out at some point.”
“ We should have been more careful.” She says before wrapping her arms around his torso and resting her head on his chest. They haven’t been as cautious as they should these last few days, but she really didn’t think they would get caught the way they did. “ I should go talk to him.”
“ I’ll go with you.” Shawn says as she walks to the door.
“ No, he’ll lose his mind if you’re with me.” Camila sighs. “ I’ll see you later, okay?”
“ Okay.” He watches as she leaves, scared of her talking to her father when he’s angry like that, but also knowing she has no other option.
Camila makes her way outside, watching as all the guests pay attention to her, but her father is no longer there. Neither are Shawn’s friends, so she walks inside the resort to find Carlos talking to her boyfriend's three friends, but not a sign of her father.
“ Where is he?” She asks when she reaches them.
“ In his office.” Her brother says. “ Do you want me to come with you?”
She doesn’t even answer him, walking upstairs feeling angry and frustrated by what her dad did to Shawn. She finds the door to his office open and him looking through the window, the peaceful beach outside not matching either of their moods.
“ I can’t believe you did that.” Camila says, making him turn around to look at her.
“ You’re not allowed to date, Karla! At least not while you’re living under my roof.” He says with anger.
“ You’re not the boss of me.” Her voice sounds frustrated, all of her incorformation for the way her father has been acting towards her over the years spilling out of her. “ You don’t even pay attention to me most of the time, why do you care so much if I have a boyfriend? It’s not like you’d make any effort to get to know him anyways. You just want to control me, just like you did with mom!”
“ You’re grounded for the rest of your life and I’ll be informing your little boyfriend he’s no longer welcomed in my resort.” With those words, he storms off and leaves her there with tears in her eyes. Sometimes she wishes it was her father in that damn car accident and not her mother, but then she feels guilty for ever thinking something like that.
