A few months later........

A few months later Diego and Elias worked almost in sync with each other. Elias would make the orders, and Diego would talk with the customers and handle the money. Elias never told his family that Diego would be working with him. Only that he needed a hand, so he hired a friend. Of course, his parents being the stuck up people they are, never asked any further questions about who they were paying below minimum wage to. Elias's family was in fact rich, they try to be modest by putting it as "well off" but they were never without a glass of champagne in one hand, and a stack of 100's in the other. Elias didn't like having money at his disposal though, it made him feel bored. So, as a young kid, he opened a lemonade stand and sold each cup of lemonade for $1, since that's a bill you didn't need to make change for. Once he couldn't use his kid face to sell overly sweet lemonade anymore, he realized he still wanted to work for his money. However, his parents didn't want him to work with poor people. So, they compromised and his parents bought him a Subway on the premise that he was the only one to work there. Diego didn't know that Elias's parents didn't know about him though. All he knew is that he had to show up to work every day half an hour before noon, except on weekends.

However, those hours changed once summer ended, and school began. Diego and Elias both began going to college, Elias however went to a private college and Diego to a community college. Most days once school ended Diego would be the first one to the shop since the college Elias went to was a long drive away. But whenever Elias arrived Diego always handed him his apron, and his little plastic name tag, with a smile.

They would both work for hours in harmony, both of them able to guess the other's next move.

Until Olivia came in, Elias knew Olivia too well. Their families had been pushing them together since their mother's pregnancies were announced.

One day, after a particularly long day of school. Oliva walked into the Subway shop and Elias immediately noticed. Olivia walks in, her wedges tapping against the tile floor and her mouth in a constant grimace of disgust. Her designer bag never left the crook of her arm, and she wore her coat like a dress going all the way down to her knees. Elias wiped the mayo, and sweat, off his hands and walked over to talk to Olivia.

"What are you doing here Olivia? You lost?" He asked, there could be no other reason for her presence, she had to have been lost. There's no way Olivia, the definition of snobby, would ever walk into a fast-food restaurant without being held against her will.

"I wanted to see the place my parents can't stop talking about. It really isn't as bad as they make it seem." She replied, slowly tapping her shoes over to the counter. "Believe me when I say they made this place sound like a drug den. But it's actually not that bad." Olivia smirked as she finally stood on the other side of the counter, right across from Elias. Elias smashed his lips together forming a forced smile, rivaling Olivia's smirk.

"Is there anything I can help you with Olivia?" Elias asked, wondering what rich words would be next out of Olivia's mouth.

"Oh please, like I would eat anything here." Olivia laughed, then continued, "No, I actually just came by to ask if any of your parent's friends know you work here. You know, other than my family." She finished with the same evil smirk as before. Her words managed to perk Diego's ears up from the backroom where he was reshelving different types of meats. Diego began to walk to the front when Elias spoke,

"Actually quite a few know I work at a place like this, they just don't know exactly where. I think both our families would like to keep it that way." Elias said in an almost threatening way, however, no one could threaten Olivia because she's always ten steps ahead of everyone else. Elias and Olivia are almost similar in the way that just because they have money, doesn't mean they can't make a name for themselves. Diego emerged from the back and walked straight to Elias's side, looking Olivia up and down. He had never seen shoes as expensive-looking as Olivia's.

"Is everything ok over here?" Diego said, almost telling Elias that he could, and would, march Olivia right out the door. He just needed the word and it'd be done. Olivia stood, mouth almost dropped but her pure class saved her from the embarrassment. Instead, the most her appearance allowed was shifting from her right to the left foot.

"No, Diego there's no problem here at all." Elias scoffed, "If you wouldn't mind finishing Olivia up here, I'll be in the back." Elias finished before turning and heading into the back room. Diego turned his attention back to the million-dollar woman standing in front of him, Olivia.

"Was there anything I could get you? Olivia was it?" Diego asked. Olivia, smiled and stood upright, and then began to glance over the menu. Diego was rather attractive, anyone could admit it. His tall dark figure was only enhanced by the green apron he had tied around his perfectly built waist.

"I'll take a chocolate chip cookie, my sweet tooth has been begging lately," Olivia replied, her smile never fading. Diego rang up her cookie and bagged it just like any other. Except, this wasn't any other person he'd be giving it to. Whoever this was, was obviously an important person. So, he took his time placing the cookie in just right.

Olivia however, was once again 10 steps ahead. Her parents told her to see who was helping little ol' Elias out at the filth hole he called a shop. She just didn't expect the person helping to be so cute.

"Thank you- what was your name?" Olivia asked. Diego chuckled and answered,

"Diego, it's a pleasure to meet you," with a grin painted on his face. He didn't want to mess this encounter up, he didn't want to get Elias in trouble.

"Diego- I love that name," Olivia laughed, "you know Diego, this weekend there's a banquet Elias and I have to go to. Would you want to be my plus one? There's cake, lots of food, and-" Olivia continued to ramble off a list of every possible reason to go. Diego wasn't sure what to say, the banquet almost sounded too good to be true, and certainly too good for him. Diego wasn't going to turn her down however, he knew he had and would reply yes. He just wished he didn't have to go with her.

"-I'd love to go with you," Diego replied right when Olivia took a breath. Olivia brightened up and grabbed a pen and paper out of the purse that was still latched onto her arm. She began writing down her number and handed the slip of paper to Diego.

"Call me tonight and I'll send the details over! Can't wait!" She said, and then clicked her heels out the door. Diego looked at her number, just a bunch of numbers. However, he didn't have long to stare at her number before he had to tend to another customer.
