The Banquet

Diego stood outside the, at least 100-foot tall, building. Olivia had dropped off some clothes for Diego to wear since obviously, he wouldn't have anything nice enough to wear. So, as he stood outside the building wearing the nicest blue-collared shirt he'd ever seen, he couldn't help but wonder if his tie was tight enough. Not only would he need to meet Olivia's family, but Elias's too, along with all their closest friends. Nervous couldn't begin to describe half of what Diego was feeling, but the other half he couldn't describe at all. Eventually, he gutted up enough nerves and walked into the lobby of the building.

The lobby of the building was indescribable itself, the floor literally shined. There was a chandelier in the middle, attached to a long chain so you can see it going up at least eight floors. The lobby wasn't so much a lobby so much as a giant room with a counter, and a person standing behind it looking just as elegant as the room itself.  Besides the desk, there were two couches and one large rug. The couches looked like their sole purpose was to be so uncomfortable people wouldn't stay for long. They did look nice though, just as nice as everything else in the room.

Once Diego walked inside the revolving doors, he only had a moment to look around in amazement before the man behind the desk asked,

"Is there something I can help you with sir?" To which Diego walked over and asked where the banquet was being held.

The banquet was held in a room on the second floor, in a room big enough to fit three long oak tables and a stage with a microphone set up on it. The stage was only a step up and couldn't fit more than ten people on it at a time. Elias's family sat at one table with their guests, Olivia's family sat at their table with their guests, and another prestigious family sat at their table with their guests. Each table consisted of at least twenty people each.

Both Olivia and Elias at their respective tables looked bored, obviously, neither of them wanted to be there. Diego walked into the room, thanked the man who escorted him and looked around the massive room. Olivia and Elias both perked up when Diego walked into the room, and Olivia got up to bring Diego to her table. Elias settled back into his seat, which happened to look directly at Olivia's table. Elias couldn't help but feel a little sad seeing his friend sit with Olivia, he wanted to talk to Diego too. Of course, Olivia just gets whatever she wants. Elias finally gets close with someone and now he can't even talk to them during the most boring event his parents put on.

Olivia brought Diego to their seats, right next to each other, and sat down. Olivia wore her favorite dress, it was blue and sparkly and went all the way down to her knees. However, the top part went all the way down to the top of her breasts. Olivia couldn't wipe her stupid grin off her face and certainly couldn't get rid of her slightly pink cheeks. Diego sat down next to her, mouth having gone dry, drained his cup of the ice water inside it.

"Dad, I'd like you to meet Diego. He's my plus one this evening." Olivia told the man on the opposite side of her, at the head of the long table. Her father was a bulky man, well-fed. He wore a gray suit and a blue tie. Diego nodded, blue must be the color of the night. Olivia's father smiled at Diego and reached over plates of expensive food to shake his hand.

"Hello Diego, pleased you could make it tonight, maybe Olivia won't be so bored tonight." He said with a big laugh, Olivia chuckled politely. But inside she wanted to leave, no one could make banquet nights tolerable. Not even Diego. Sure enough, after Olivia introduced them, her father went back to talking to his guests and not giving her a second glance.

"Glad you could make it tonight Diego, maybe tonight will be less boring," Olivia told Diego, Diego just nodded in return. His nerves hadn't calmed down, he couldn't stop sweating let alone talk. Across the room, Diego looked at Elias who was staring at a plate of mashed potatoes and turkey. Diego watched Elias pick at a single cranberry for five minutes before Olivia nudged his arm.
