Dear Jodi

I can’t believe it. You love me. Damn… A few months ago I was still half terrified of talking to you. Now here we are, me still hopelessly in love with you and you just saying that you love me.

I can’t believe it.

Love, Karla

I woke up to the sound of sweet humming, sweet cause I knew exactly who it was sitting there next to my hospital bed.

It was my second day at the hospital, since they had found a  few inner bleedings they had wanted to keep me over night. However I was getting ready to leave in maybe another day. Problem now, I had nowhere to go.

“…You’ve built your walls so high, that no one could climb it. But I’m gonna try…” I couldn’t help but smile when I heard her sing, it was so beautiful.

“Don’t you have a class to educate?” I said, causing Jodi’s singing to turn into giggle.

“It’s Sunday, so no and even if I would then I’d still be here.” She caressed my cheek with her hand, I loved the fact that she always put a little perfume on her wrists cause the scent was so nice.

“Does your husband know?” I saw in her eyes that she was quite tired so I guessed she had been here all morning.

“He thinks I’m visiting a friend here… which I sort of am.” An attempted smile spread on her face but instead it showed of the guilt she probably felt.

I just nodded in reply, taking her soft hand in mine. I really loved her. Ever since the first time, I had loved her.

“When are they letting you go…” She didn’t know what to say after go, knowing as well as I did that I couldn’t go home.

“No idea, I don’t really have any friends. And the relatives are basically like my family.”

“I see.” She looked at me with a bothered look, rubbing her thumb gently on the back of my hand.

“Have my parents been here?”

“No, and believe me if they come here they will have to go through me first. I’m not letting those people near you again.” Her grip around my hand tightened.

We sat quiet for a while, just peacefully enjoying the moment. Our fingers tightly tangled together. Suddenly Jodi got up.

“I’m sorry, I have to go.” She said, giving me a kiss on the cheek.

“Will you come back?” I asked her, hoping she’d say yes.

“I’ll be back later yes, I just have a few errands to run” She smiled and give me one last kiss, this time on the lips, before heading out the door.

After Jodi left a young nurse came into the room, she was probably about 24, she sat down where Jodi had spent the morning.

“How are you feeling today?” She asked, her voice was really soft and calming.

“I’m good, or better at least.” I gave her a shy smile.

“That’s nice to hear, some of us nurses here got a bit worried when they brought you in.”

“Why’s that?” What a dumb thing to ask, of course people realize something’s up when a beaten up teenager is taken to the hospital.

“Well you were pretty bruised up and unconscious on top of that.” She didn’t seem to react to my stupid question, thank god.

She smiled, showing of her white teeth that would have fitted better in a commercial for toothpaste than here in the hospital. I looked down at her name tag, Susan.

“Thanks for checking on me Susan.” She was just about to leave, after spending almost an hour in my room just talking with me.

“My pleasure, just wanted to make sure you didn’t get bored in here.” She winked at me before closing the door behind her.

I couldn’t help but smile, now I only waited for Jodi to come back. It was weird how much I could miss her even after spending the entire morning with her and then knowing she’d return later. I put on the tv that was in my room, browsing through the channels just to be disappointed about the lack of things to watch.

A few hours later I heard the door slowly open and someone whispering a small hey. I turned around and there she was, the one who made me the happiest girl ever. She carried two Starbuck coffees in her hands and looked as stunning as ever, now with her hair up in a messy ponytail.

“Hey you.” I said with a smile, sitting up in my bed.

“I brought you some coffee.” She putted the two cups down on the table beside my bed.

“Thanks, you’re the best.” I reached out and grabbed one of them, before I could take a sip though she quickly leaned in and stole a kiss.

“YOU’RE the best.” She said with a giggle.

I scooted over a bit in the bed, allowing Jodi to lay down next to me instead of sitting on the chair. She put her arm around me, playing with my hair and humming a song I didn’t recognize.

“They’re letting me go home tomorrow.” I whispered when she was done.

“I know sweetie.” Her voice dropped a bit, we both knew I had nowhere else to go than back.

“I wish you could stay with me…” She whispered and kissed my forehead.

I wished that too, but it wasn’t long until she was moving. This wasn’t something I had thought of before, mostly because I knew what it would do with me. I didn’t know if I could handle it.

“Honey, there you are! We have to go, my folks are here!” The voice of a man interrupted our moment.

That was the first time I had met Jodi’s husband, and I surely hoped it would be the last. Hearing him call her honey did hurt me more than any beating ever could. Jodi noticed this and her arm around me tightened for a second, as if she didn’t want to leave.

“I think I’ll stay just a while longer.” She said with a short tone.

“Honey don’t do this again, let’s just go!” He was getting impatient, his foot tapped against the floor in a quick rhythm.

“Andrew, I’m staying.” Jodi was getting impatient as well but for another reason.

“Fine. Get a cab home cause I’m not waiting any longer.” With that he left.

Jodi turned to me, looking more tired than I had ever seen her.

“Sorry for that.” She excused, I didn’t answer just kissed her.

She stayed with me for the rest of the day, talking about where I would go after this. Jodi assured me that she would fix it and she would come pick me up the next day and everything would be okay. I wanted to believe her, I really did.
