"Fuck him, Lily, honestly, fuck that asshole. I mean not that I care about him or anything, but who does that? While in long-distance as well?"
I am ranting to Lily while standing in front of the mirror in her room, trying to decide what to wear to Elaine's tonight.
Lily is sitting on her bed behind me, a bottle of wine next to her, painting her nails dark red.
"Yes, definitely. Cheaters are scum," she agrees, and looking up she shakes her head. "Not that one, wear something..." she takes a moment to think, "really sexy, to make him jealous!" She finishes seemingly proud of herself.
"I don't have to make him jealous though," I protest but I still like the idea of wearing something amazing. I am not some side-chick for some quick fun while drunk. No, no, most definitely not.
Rummaging through the bag I brought I stumble across the shiny green dress I bought ages ago but haven't felt like wearing yet. I take off the black lace top Lily disapproved of and throw on the green dress. It is made of silk, so it flows nicely around my body with skinny spaghetti straps and reaching down to just above my knees. It seems simple but it brings out my green eyes and has an elegant touch to it.
"Yes. Yes, yes, yes," Lily claps her hands and I grin at her reaction. Yes, this is the one. I pair it with some simple black heels and gold jewellery. While I then turn to do my make-up, it is Lily's turn to find something to wear.
"Alright. This one," she turns in front of me in a pale blue dress with small flowers on it,
"or," and while she leaves the ending hanging open, she changes into a red, skin-tight dress with the back cut out.
"This one?" she asks and I raise my eyebrows.
This is not Lily normally. I narrow my eyes at her.
"Who are you trying to impress?" I ask and her sudden blushing tells me she is most definitely trying to impress someone! "Who!" I yell. I thought I knew about all of Lily's crushes!
Still blushing, she comes over to me and sits down on the side of the bed.
"Swear you won't tell anyone," she asks me and I nod, eyes still wide. Who is it? Who would even be good enough of my best friend of a queen?
"It's Tom," she whispers barely audible, suddenly looking down and fiddling with the blanket. Tom. Tom... Tom who? Oh god. No. Tom-Tom! She means Tomas Jacobson. Our Tom.
"Tom-Tom?" I ask just to be sure. She nods, now looking at me.
"Ginger-Overly-Energetic-Always-Too-Drunk-Tom?" I ask, just to be sure-sure.
I mean, somehow... Yes, it's shocking, but somehow I can see that. Lily is sweet and although emotional at times, she can be a little too careful. Tom, on the other hand, is energetic and careless but weirdly emotional too at times. He could be good for her and she could be good for him. That could work. Finished with my internal assignment of the two, I focus back on Lily who is still looking at me expectantly.
"So? What do you think?" she asks and I have to smile at her worried expression.
"I love that for you, Lils. I think you could be a great match," I say honestly and grab a hold of her hands, getting serious.
"If that dumb-face does not stop destroying his liver and dies an early death, that is," I say, mock-seriously while nodding, thinking about the possibility of admitting Tom to rehab for Lily.
She laughs and reaches over to hug me. "Thanks, Kenzie.",
"Alright, but then you most definitely gotta wear the red one!"
