"Do you want to grab some ice cream later today," Lily reads aloud the text I am showing her on my phone, leaning over the table at McDonald's that is between us.
My head hurts. To say the least. It is throbbing. I am in pain. Hungover-pain.
And so McDonald's is the only logical solution to that. Henry, Tom, and Mel are just getting our orders and I took the moment to show Lily the text I got from Nick earlier today.
"What do I do?" I ask her, eyes wide, pocketing the phone again.
"I mean, do you want to go on a date with him?" she asks raising her eyebrows.
I lean back into the bench and let out a big breath of air. "I don't know," I answer honestly. I mean, yes, I liked the kiss. But I was drunk. And do I even like Nick like that? Didn't I just use him against Eddie? I am not so sure myself. He is a really good guy.
"He is one of the good ones, I think," Lily speaks my mind and I nod slowly. "Yes, that he is,"
"Then why not try it? Why don't you just give it a shot and see what it's like?" She encourages me and I nod slowly.
I could, actually.
"It doesn't have to be anything. You don't like it, you leave," she adds and I keep nodding.
"Okay. I'll go on a date with Nick," I state, decided, slamming my hands flat on the table, my mind made up. It can't hurt, right?
"Yay! Maybe we can do double dates soon then!" she exclaims and horror fills my veins. Which must have shown on my face because Lily quickly grabs my hand to calm me down.
"Okay, no, never mind, forget I said that," she says and I nod, still in horror. Oh, god. How cheesy. Plus! I don't even know if I like Nick like that. Typical Lily to go planning weddings before the first date.
"Ew, Kenzie, what's with the face?" Tom asks, as they are coming back with our food and I shake myself out of it.
"Nothing," Lily smiles up at him and he gives her a smile back, both blushing.
"Ew, guys!" Mel exclaims, plopping down next to me while Henry slides in next to Tom and Lily. "Get a room, already," she rolls her eyes at them, and while the rest of us laughs the two blush even redder. As of last night, rather as of the moment they made out in the middle of the dance floor the fact that Lily Forrester and Tom Jacobson are a thing, is official. Henry and Mel weren't surprised a bit and I, again, had to ask myself if I was really that stupid.
Following Tom's example of biting off half of his burger in his first go, we all attack our food and quietly munch away at it until the first hunger and the pain is temporarily relieved.
Only Henry is still weirdly quiet when we start discussing last night and how Claire Lint totally vomited into the bushes.
"Alright, Henry," I am sick of this. He is quieter than usual and is still wearing that brooding expression from last night. "What's up?" I ask him directly and the others fall quiet around us.
Looking around at us and noticing we all noticed something is wrong, he sighs and goes through his dark curly hair.
"I failed the year," he then bursts out and shrugs.
"Oh.." Lily says and it's quiet for a moment while the news settle in.
"Oh, well, Henry, that's no big deal!" Lily is the first to speak up, always the cheerleader for everyone.
"Yeah, man, surely you can make up for it or something?", Tom adds, putting a hand on his best friend's shoulder and squeezing it, showing his empathic side.
